Hi all

Sorry I don't post much or get involved with the hackspace (or what is left of one) but I'm not local to Canterbury..

Anyway today I've bought myself an Arduino Mega2560 from Mappers. Now they say if I'm not happy with it I can take it back however I noticed they had the next one up - Arduino Mega ADK for Android. Now I don't have any smartphones / android systems but I did notice it has a usb - serial converter onboard along with a few other bits that I've no idea how useful they'd be.

My main reason for buying it is because moons ago i studied electronics but gave up due to external pressures (financial mainly). I've always wanted to get back into it since yet I'm not good with self motivation. I figured one of these would help me out with that!

Am I missing much with the 2560 instead of the ADK? - I've always wanted to be able to create usb devices that can interact with a PC. Would the ADK have been a better choice? I'm heading back to the town I bought it in a few days so will have an opportunity to take it back and upgrade but it'll be another £15. Obviously if it doesn't really offer me much more then I won't but I'd like some input please!

Thanks for reading,

JD

All arduino's including the mega emulate a serial line over the usb
socket, so you can indeed interact with the pc.

I have an arduino mega. They are pretty sweet because they have more
uarts than the normal ones :)

I can't say much about the adk one.

All arduinos have a USB/Serial converter for communication with a PC and for programming the chip itself.

So what is the difference between the arduino using a usb - serial convertor and a HID device?
