Hi all

Ok so I got me an Arduino from a retailer a while back. Great little bit of kit!

Anyway I decided to have a prowl on ebay for arduinos and shields. Lo and behold I've found arduinos at a far cheaper price including mine for less than half of what I paid.

So, anyone bought arduinos from ebay? Any experience / comments re the quality / reliability? Any fakes known to be on there?

Prices are far more attractive than a certain retailer hence I'm considering buying some bits from there instead of the retailer.

The main reason they're cheaper is they're manufactured either in china or in someone's shed. Quality is known to vary wildly in the cheaper alternatives. In my personal view you're better off buying to official one. Not only do you have someone to go back to if there's a problem with the board, you're supporting them directly. Third party manufacturers often pay nothing Arduino.

Hi Jamie,

I sourced an arduino mega from eBay for about half the price of an official arduino. It was built to a very high standard and works perfectly.

Having said that your milage may vary. Because the hardware is open, anyone can build and sell them.

PS.

Make sure the item is in the UK when you order or it will take weeks to arrive.

Hi Edd

Yes I've found a couple in the UK (I'm not patient enough to wait for a chineese distributor lol) but I'm not sure that they're selling the latest. I have the Mega 2560 Revision 3. Presumably the ones on ebay are older? Any major difference do you think?

I'll take a picture of mine sometime. I don't know about the revisions. Sorry.
