Hi,

as the subjects reveals: how can I cite cantera in a conference paper?
Is there any technical report/thesis/somewhat around to refer to?

Sorry if this question has been answered before, but I could not find
any post about the subject...

Regards
Max

Hi Max,

Recently I've presented a conference paper where I used Cantera.
I cited that way:

D. Goodwin, "Cantera: An object-oriented software toolkit for chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport processes", Caltech, Pasadena, 2009. [Online]. Available: http://code.google.com/p/cantera

I use the version 1.8.0 so that I cited as 2009.

Regards,
Rodolfo

Here's another alternative.  About 4 or 5 years ago, Dave Goodwin suggested:

Goodwin, D.G., 2003. An open‑source, extensible software suite for CVD process simulation. In Proceedings of CVD XVI and EuroCVD Fourteen, M Allendorf, F Maury, and F Teyssandier (Eds.), Electrochemical Society, 155-162

Hope this helps.

Hi,

thanks a lot for all your suggestions, I think I am going to take the
more recent reference.

In any case, it would be nice it Dave would give his opinion. After
all, Cantera was initiated by him... ;)

Best
Max

Hi,

is there any news on this topic? I'd like to cite the current (development) version of Cantera. Is there a standard way to do this? Otherwise, I'd cite Cantera by

Dave Goodwin, Nicholas Malaya, Harry Moffat, and Raymond Speth. Cantera. An object-oriented software toolkit for chemical kinetics, thermodynamics, and transport processes. Version 2.1a1, available at https://code.google.com/p/cantera/

Please tell me what you think about it. It would be nice to have a standard formulation (including a BibTeX entry;) somewhere on the homepage or in the Sphinx documentation.

Thanks a lot!

Thomas,

I think that's a pretty reasonable citation. The only minor changes I would suggest would be to use a colon in the title, e.g. "Cantera: An object-oriented...") and to include the year, either with the version or as a separate date field.

Your suggestion to have a standardized formulation for this is a good one. I'll add something along these lines to the Sphinx documentation when I get the chance.

Ray

Ray,

Has a standardized formulation been implemented?  If not, I'll use a variation of Thomas' format for my citation.

As this topic still pops up as one of the first results on (my) google:

The standardized formulation can be found here in the FAQ: https://cantera.github.io/docs/sphinx/html/faq.html
