Stochastic Reactor Model

Hello,

I'm trying to couple chemical kinetics in a 0D combustion model and predict emissions in a piston engine.

One way I found to do this is by using the so called stochastic reactor model, in which pdfs are used to model the combustion chamber inhomogeneities.

- Is Cantera able to simulate such a reactor, or is this beyond Cantera's purpose?

- Have anyone here worked with SRM and could point me to a open/academic software for it?

Hi Oswaldo,

Cantera does not have a facility to directly model a stochastic reactor. You can, however, use Cantera to calculate reaction rates, heat release rates, and so forth given a set of conditions. Whether those conditions are derived from a PDF or otherwise, if you can get them into Cantera you can get out the properties you would need to do the modeling separately.

Thanks very much for this insight! It sounds indeed simpler than I could think.

I certainly have to study Cantera and its capabilities deeper, but I can think of using a reactor network for the purpose of exchanging mass, heat and other scalars between the 0-dimensional modeled particles. Do you believe this could be a good approach?
