Dear all canopy science community members,

First of all, please accept my apology for not getting back to you after the successful completion of the 8th International Canopy Conference. It was just wonderful to see all the old and new faces IN PERSON!

I would like to remind you all that we are currently calling for papers related to canopy ecology for the TWO special issues launched in Frontiers in Forests and Climate Change and Integrative Conservation.

The SI title for Frontiers in Forest and Climate Change is "Understanding patterns and mechanisms of forest canopy diversity and ecosystem functions in a changing world - Volume II". This SI was launched after the very successful completion of the earlier special issue, with 12 papers published last year. The journal comes with IF = 3.2 (Q1) but as this is an open-access journal, publication fees may be an issue for many of us...
Please take a look at the link below for more details on this SI.

The SI title for Integrative Conservation is "Conservation and management of forest biodiversity and ecosystem functions provided by forest canopies". Wiley publishes this journal on behalf of my institute (Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden, Chinese Academy of Sciences). Although the journal does not come with an IF (as this is a brand new journal), but we are very ambitious to get a high IF next year. This journal is also open access but publication fees are currently waived (until we get an IF). So I believe this is a very reasonable outlet, and your publication will be a good investment with potentially high future IF.  Please see the below link for more details of this SI. Any canopy-related papers (ecology, education, social science etc) with a hint of conservation implications will be accepted for review.

Please let me know if any of you are interested in publishing in these special issues. For Frontiers, you can submit your interest via its online system. As far as I know, Integrative Conservation does not come with such a system, and I would very much appreciate it if you could personally email me your interest so that I can estimate the number of potential papers in this issue.

Don't worry. The deadlines for both special issues will be extended in due course!

Thank you again for your wonderful support, and I hope to see you all again at another conference (anyone attending ICE in Kyoto in Aug this year?)!!!

Best
Aki
