I thought I posted this to the group already, but I guess not?

I put back up all the content that used to be hosted at appliance dot io, at: http://www.canoncat.net/

I've also been working with the JSMESS emulation project, and their public beta site now hosts an online, emulated version of the Cat, at: http://jsmess.textfiles.com/messloader.html?module=cat

JSMESS is a port of the MESS emulator to JavaScript, so if you have a recent Firefox or Chrome build and a reasonably fast computer, after several seconds you should see the Cat boot up right in your web browser.

We're working with a two year old version of MESS, which has a bug that every several seconds, it thinks the modem rings.  That was fixed earlier this year, and when we update to a recent build of a MESS, that will go away and you'll be able to use it more productively.  A SwyftCard emulation will also be able to go online at that point as well.

If anyone has any other materials they'd like put up, let me know.

Vitorio,

This is very nice, thank you!  Much more accessible for exploring the Cat than futzing with building and setting up MESS yourself.  Perhaps more people will have a chance to check out the Cat via JSMESS.

It even runs (decently) on my ARM Chromebook ;)

Vitorio,

I'll echo that… thanks for putting all of that stuff up.

The emulator looks really neat, but I'm a bit stuck since my keyboard
doesn't match cats. Is it possible to leap and things like that (that
require special keys) in the mess emulator? And if so, how! :)

Thanks,
Jesse

The best docs are probably the source code comments: http://mamedev.org/source/src/mess/drivers/cat.c.html

I should write those up and post them on the JSMESS site at some point.

Left Alt is leap left, Right Alt is leap right, Left Ctrl is left use front, Right Ctrl is right use front.

The mamedev.org web-accesable copy of the source code is 2 months or more out of date (the site changed hosting recently, and there are still some issues with accessing/updating on the new host) so the source code in http://mamedev.org/source/src is obsolete.

The web-accessable copy of the source code at http://git.redump.net/mame/tree/src/mess/drivers/cat.c is up to date within 15 minutes of the MAME/MESS shared subversion repository.

The subversion repository can be accessed directly using a subversion client like tortoisesvn, and is located at svn://dspnet.fr/mame/trunk
