Hi All
As many may know, I publish a schematic for connecting up to two
regular drives to the Cat. My primary purpose was to us this for
compiling
and not so much as to replace a failed drive.
While the circuit worked fine for using the new floppy as single
sided drive,
like the original, it had occasional problem when used as a two sided
drive.
After some thought, I realized that the problem was still related to
a drive
not ready condition but didn't have time to look into it( I was
working on
integrating a HP printer driver into the 2.40 source code ).
After finishing the previous project, I went back to looking at the
drive
side switching problem. Thinking it was a drive not ready condition, I
added the ?index plus the ?diskrdy in don. Sure enough, the problem
went
away. I have not seen any problems switching sides.
This brings a new thought. A simpler circuit that just makes a
single
drive replacement of only wiring and connectors ( no ICs ).
It wouldn't give one the option of two drives but there are not many
looking
for that. It should allow one to replace a bad drive with a more
robust
TEAC drive or such.
I'll try to compose a new schematic for this simpler adapter, in the
next week
or so.
