Hello,
My name is James Thurman, and I am the Program & Operations Coordinator for Lori’s Hands. I am reaching out to introduce both myself and our organization and to see if you would be willing to share information about our program with members of your community.
Lori’s Hands is a nonprofit organization that connects college student volunteers with older adults and individuals living with chronic illness. Through weekly visits, students provide companionship and assistance with light household tasks, while also learning firsthand about the lived experiences of managing chronic health conditions. Our goal is to reduce social isolation, support independence, and foster meaningful intergenerational relationships.
Lori’s Hands has been serving the Metro Detroit community since 2022 and currently provides services throughout Washtenaw and Wayne Counties. I have attached a flyer with additional information about our program that you are welcome to share with community members, staff, or anyone who may benefit from our services.
At this time, we do have a waitlist for both Washtenaw and Wayne Counties. However, we are actively seeking referrals for individuals who live in closer proximity to the University of Michigan's Ann Arbor campus, as student availability is greatest in that area.
If anyone is interested in learning more about Lori’s Hands, please feel free to have them contact me directly by phone or email. I would be happy to answer questions, discuss eligibility, and explain how the program works.
Individuals can also submit a referral directly using the following referral link:
Thank you for your time and consideration. We appreciate any assistance in helping us connect with community members who may benefit from our services. Please do not hesitate to reach out if you have any questions.
Kind regards,
