Hello from 826michigan!

Thank you for your interest and/or participation in our programs. We're excited to share our upcoming summer program schedule.

Please mark your calendars—registration opens THIS EVENING—Friday, May 1 at 6pm.

Summer Writing Lab (ages 8-13)
Students work in small groups with volunteers in a safe and supportive environment for writing. Through collaborative writing exercises and time for individual writing projects, students draft an original story portfolio to showcase in the final session.

Wee-Write (ages 5-8)
  • Ypsilanti: Saturdays, 10:15-11:15am at the Ypsilanti District Library-Michigan Ave (*new location—meet us in the basement Program Room 2!*)
No advance registration required—join us when you can! This summer, we'll be combining our Ann Arbor and Ypsilanti Wee-Write programs into one session, held at the Ypsilanti District Library's Michigan Ave Branch. ALL families are welcome to join us there! Please stay tuned for fall Wee-Write information, to be held in both cities.

Each week, the youngest 826michigan writers meet to play and explore what writing can do. With stories that spark creativity and games that inspire students to write, the Wee-bots work in small groups—and with trusted volunteers—to bring imagination alive for these young writers. Students experience the joy of writing however they are able, from the physical act to conversation-based brainstorming and development of new ideas. More information here.

826michigan's Teen Leadership Lab is a weekly program where high school students will provide volunteer mentorship for the younger students (grades second through eighth) participating in 826michigan's After-school Writing Lab while working on their own writing alongside the younger participants. Teen Leaders will receive training and will be prepared to guide younger writers through the writing process, from brainstorming to final draft. After volunteering at each session of Writing Lab, Teen Leaders will participate in a debrief session to reflect on their experience and learn additional strategies for mentoring younger writers, and will also have the chance to share their writing and provide feedback to their peers. At the end of the semester, teens that participate in the full program (attending the training, not missing more than 1 session throughout the summer semester, attending and engaging during each session for the full time duration) will receive a $150 stipend. Priority deadline for applications is Friday, May 22 at 5:00pm, and applicants will be notified on Tuesday, May 26.

Please let us know if you have any questions. We hope to see your student soon!
