I want to know if it is faster to load and play a small wav than a small mp3 file on android media player. The wavs are about 30 KB and the same files as mp3s are about 20 kb. The mp3s have the advantage to save resource space. The sound files have to be played with split second timing.

Even the weakest android devices have ample computing power to play an mp3, and probably have hardware acceleration for it as well. The real question is the setup overhead for playing a wav vs. playing an mp3, which should be fairly easy to measure programmatically.

I'm a little surprised you're getting such a poor compression ratio with mp3. Even lossless compression algorithms tend to get a 2:1 compression ratio with wav. Given that an android device probably isn't hooked up to audiophile-quality speakers, you should be able to get away with 64 kbit/s mono mp3 compression, or even lower. If you can get the file size under 4K, it'll fit in a single memory page, which is about as low as you can get for OS overhead.

Hi there, I'm using 4.13 and can't figure out a way to play video in android device. I have coded all the stuff and video plays perfectly in editor. But I see jus black on the device when exported. I'm very much confused searching about it cuz...

I want to stop all sounds when the onPause() gets called. But I realized that if I have more than one sound being played by the same Media player Object it only stops the last sound that was attributed to it, and the others stay on playing.

Kodi is one of the few dedicated media center apps remaining that can do both video and audio content. It replaces your home screen with a whole UI dedicated solely to your experience. You can install add-ons to improve that experience if you so choose. The Android version of it is pretty good, although not without its bugs. It works best as part of an Android TV device, even though an Android TV device usually does this better these days.

MediaMonkey is an excellent music player with video playing capabilities. Most of its features are music-focused. However, you can absolutely watch video content with it. Additionally, MediaMonkey has a desktop variant for PC that also lets you view music and video content and sync content between your computer and phone. It supports most music and video formats along with some extras like audiobooks and podcasts. The app also has a widget, Android Auto support, Chromecast support, a sleep timer, and some other features. This one is quite good if you want a full-featured music player with video player capabilities.

Thank you for reading. Try these too:

With the Emby for Android application from the Google playstore (Android 12, pixel 6 pro, not rooted), I have some media files that don't work with the default/internal media player which emby uses (I have audio with corrupted images). When I set an external media player, I want to use MX Player, but emby instead uses Google Photos as the external media player and it fails to play the video entirely (no audio, black screen). If I disable Google Photos, emby will correctly use MX player (no issue with playback).

I went through my defaults with Google photos (settings and system), but I don't think there is a way to nix it's playback capabilities. Is there a way to choose which external media player to use within emby itself?

After installing VLC, when I press play within Emby, a pop up asked which video player I wanted to use (option between VLC and Google Photos, MX Player not listed) and choosing VLC has it working like expected. Thank you!

General problem, i am unable to play music from the owncloud sync folder, because no music was found. When i take a look with a file explorer, the data is there.
I tried it with different music players wich are able to work with local files, but none see more than

I dont understand, when i download a mp3 from my owncloud instance, i can choose the download folder an play it from there, but i can only choose the top owncloud folder, but nothing within. Looks like my player is able to play local files, but cant read in the owncloud sync folder

After searching music apps who can access this files i see the only reason to make no update looks like to sell another music app who can do this (with money or ads or stealing my data). No functional stock music player on android, welcome back to the dark age of the waybearer. Thank you google that i have to pay to get access to my music+.
At this point, because i fdroid, i have to steal a player or go back to a native mp3player.

According to what is clearly described here:
-apps/mediabuttons
when I press the media button (PTT button in my unihertz Titan Pocket) after completely closing my media player (foobar2000 app permits this) the OS automatically resurrects my media player and asks it to play. This drives me nuts.

I used to have an iPod Touch. It was great. It did everything I needed and I was happy to have a separate music player and mobile phone. But one day, Apple updated the software and after that Smart Playlists (ones that automatically update) stopped working on the device. The only way I could get the playlists to update was to sync with the computer and the iTunes database. It was largely due to this oversight/bug that when development on the Touch stalled (and my eyes needed a bigger screen) that I decided to jump over to Android rather than have an iPhone.

All of this may sound quite insignificant to many people, but I need music to work. I cannot work in peace and quiet, so having a music player that does what I want is important to me. That I can use my phone rather than PC also means that I get much better sound as I can use my Bluetooth speaker.

It started with the scrubber bar wiggling and oscillating as audio played in Android 13. In QPR1, Google changed the scrubber head from a circle to a vertical pill so it would look less like sperm. It also introduced the option to hide the player from your lockscreen.

The effect lasts for a few seconds and then fades out. It reappears whenever you interact or land on the media player, like after waking the screen, pulling down your drawer, switching tracks, or play/pause on Android 13 QPR2. This is also the case even when no music is playing.
