In-person Screenings: Bring your pass to any SIFF venue and let our Box Office staff know what show you are attending. They will scan your pass barcode like a ticket. Please note that your SIFF Cinema pass will be invalid if the barcode is removed or destroyed. So yesterday I got to watch "All about my Mother" by Pedro Almodóvar at the cinema and kinda fell in love with it. After thinking about it, I realized that it probably wouldn't pass a reverse Bechdel Test. Because I am a Letterboxd Nerd and love listing things, I would like to make a list of movies that do the same thing.
I'm debating on whether or not to get the Alamo season pass and a major reason on why I'd want to get it is because Alamo does rereleases of older movies. When I was looking into the season pass though it says some movies are excluded from the package (like movie parties and fests, etc). I just want to doubled check to make sure the season pass isn't only for newly released movies and can be used on certain older movies that are being shown.
For a month this summer, I paid $30 to get an Alamo Drafthouse Movie Pass. Alamo is a movie theater that allow serves food and drinks. What the Movie Pass allows you to do is watch a movie every day (and you only pay a $1.89 service fee). It is summer and I figured why not? I could take good advantage of this deal. I had never gone to the movies alone before, but this past month I realized I really enjoy it!
Psycho-Pass originated from Production I.G.'s interest in making a successor to Mamoru Oshii's achievements. The series was inspired by several live-action films. Chief director Katsuyuki Motohiro aimed to explore psychological themes in society's youth using dystopian storylines. Multiple books and movies influenced Psycho-Pass, the most notable being the 1982 American science fiction film Blade Runner. The series was licensed by Funimation in North America. Several manga and novels, including an adaptation and prequels to the original story, have been published. An episodic video game adaptation called Chimi Chara Psycho-Pass was developed by Nitroplus staffers in collaboration with Production I.G. New novels and another manga were serialized in 2014.
A second season aired between October and December 2014, with a feature film titled, Psycho-Pass: The Movie released in January 2015. In 2019, Psycho-Pass: Sinners of the System premiered between January and March. A third season aired between October and December 2019, with a sequel film, Psycho-Pass 3: First Inspector, released in March 2020. A new anime film titled Psycho-Pass Providence was released in May 2023. All of the stories take place in an authoritarian future dystopia where omnipresent public sensors continuously scan the mental states of every passing citizen in order to determine their criminal propensity.

All of these movies, and many other Disney films, left long-lasting, tangible effects on a young Julia Usiak, as I set out to replicate each and every on-screen trope. But what else did I internalize from my impressionable childhood? Perhaps my favorite films taught me the wrong lessons about women. The Bechdel Test offers one method to examine the messaging Disney tried to cram down my throat.
Psycho-Pass is one of the best psychological thriller anime to come out in recent years, so of course, it spawned several sequels and movies. So far, there are a total of three seasons of the anime. As for the movies, there are three of them, too, but two of them are divided into three parts. There's a lot to cover, which can make the task of covering all of it daunting for newcomers.
The sheer amount of content of Psycho-Pass anime material makes one wonder whether the movies are worth watching. Normally, anime movies tied to a series are comprised of non-canon material that doesn't really influence said series or one's experience with it. However, Psycho-Pass is different; the movies do have a direct connection to the anime and vice-versa. As for whether these connections warrant watching them, that will require a closer look at each season and their associated anime.
As for the writing and production quality of these three movies, they're about what one might expect after watching the anime. Naturally, Season 1 was lightning in a bottle that later installments of the franchise tried to replicate but couldn't quite get down. With that said, all of the movies are fairly comparable to their respective preceding seasons; their storytelling and animation quality are all decent in their own right, even if they don't quite compare to Season 1. As long as one goes into either later seasons or the movies with these expectations, they should come out of them satisfied.
Those looking to watch Psycho-Pass should definitely consider watching these three movies. They not only provide decent worldbuilding and character development, but they also have story elements that tie them directly to the main series. As far as entertainment value goes, they're certainly worthwhile in that regard, too. For the most part, adding them to one's watchlist isn't necessary, but it is highly recommended.

I was just reading an article about the oddly prolonged adolescence of American males, especially those in the movies. There's a common fantasy where the guys get away from their wives and girlfriends, and escape to where they're free to guzzle beer, eat sloppily, belch, fart, leave pizza boxes on the floor, scratch their butts, watch sports on TV, and in many other ways become irresistible to hot chicks. When was the last time you saw a man under 30 in the movies who had a stable marriage, a job, children, and a life where he valued his wife above his buddies?
