I'm curious for those that run on prem, how do you like it? Any regrets from not going cloud based? What was your selling point to be on prem vs cloud? Just trying to get some information on all angles before we go to deeply into things. Any information or tips are appreciated.
There wasn't a cloud option when we first purchased Jamf, and until recently the pricing for cloud was a lot more expensive than on-prem. Now that the pricing is almost identical we will be looking to migrate prior to our next renewal.
I have worked at four different locations that all were on premises. At three of those locations, everything functioned perfectly and Jamf support was always there to help with issues.
Overall I would prefer cloud for the following reasons: - Jamf manages the back end. They want you to be successful so you will rarely, if ever, have any problems. - Apple and Jamf are very careful when it comes to security and will be able to overcome any concerns of internal network security. - When new features are rolled out in Jamf Pro, you will have them within a couple weeks instead of waiting for the server team to install and test.
I have seen first-year pricing is about the same, but what about subsequent year renewals? Off the top of my head that's costing only something like $20.00/year for macOS renewals for on-prem while cloud price is first-year every year.

When these devices roam back on-prem, they find the internal beacon and go straight to storefront and they struggle as currently the store used by the Gateway vserver is set to only auth using gateway passthrough. I have tried adding Domain Passthrough but that did not work - being AADJ these devices are not domain members but i hoped, being based on IIS, storefront would work with the AAD PRT mechanism, but it seems not. Error i get is 'No Logon Methods'.
Ideally we want these AADJ devices to be able to roam off- and on-prem and seamlessly auth in and launch their apps/desktops, like a domain-joined device would. How this is achieved doesn't matter as long as the end-user experience is slick.

Monitoring on-prem can be supported by "Private Google Access" which means that the "cloudmonitoring.googleapis.com" needs to be enabled from on-prem (restricted.googleapis.com or private.googleapis.com), then it can be configured to use the interconnect to Google Cloud.
I'm not a Networking person, but from the document I referred above, "Private Google Access for on-premises hosts provides a way for on-premises systems to connect to Google APIs and services by routing traffic through a Cloud VPN tunnel or a Cloud Interconnect attachment (VLAN)."
My understanding is that this is (required) how to enable on-prem to connect to Google APIs. Unfortunately I don't have any access to such environment to verify it. I will continue to research to see what else could be helpful in this case.
The problem that you are facing is that the Jira REST API of on-prem is returning a different result from Jira REST API of Cloud? So you want to know the host type in order to know how to parse the results, correct?
@remie @ibuchanan Does Jira REST API(Get users from group) return a key field in the response for all versions of on-prem, or it is just for a specific version of on-prem? For other versions, does API response return the accountId field instead of the key field?
