He currently serves as Member of parliament, Lok Sabha from Gorakhpur.[4] His film works are predominantly in Bhojpuri and Hindi cinema, as well as Telugu cinema.[5][6] He has also appeared in a few Kannada and Tamil films.
In 2006, he participated in Bigg Boss, the Indian version of Big Brother.[7] He ended up as the second runner up. He was also a contestant on Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa 5 in 2012. His upcoming film Mission Raniganj releases on 6 October 2023.[8]
A film starring Kishan, Jala Debh Duniya Tohra Pyar Mein, produced by the American film company PUN Films, was shown in the India Pavilion at the Cannes Film Festival 2010.[citation needed], In 2011 he had a role in the film Shraddha In The Name Of God directed by Gurubhai Thakkar.[16]
Kishan made his South Indian debut with the 2014 Telugu film Race Gurram. In 2017 he made his Kannada debut in Hebbuli and Tamil debut with Monisha En Monalisa in 1999. In 2018, he had a role in the film MLA.[20]
In 2008, Kishan dubbed Tobey Maguire's role as Spider-Man in Spider-Man 3 into Bhojpuri. This is the first Hollywood blockbuster film to include a Bhojpuri voice dub, along with Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu dubs.[citation needed]
Speaking to Siddharth Kanan, Ravi recalled an incident from the sets of the 1996 film Army when Shah Rukh reached the sets with a high fever. But since he was so dedicated towards his work, he never complained.
Ravi Kishan has worked with Akshay Kumar in films like Zakhmi Dil, Keemat, Aan and Phir Hera Pheri. With Shah Rukh Khan, he has shared the screen in Army. Ravi will now be seen in Mission Raniganj, that will hit theatres on October 6. The film, based on the Raniganj coalfield mine collapse of 1989 in West Bengal, stars Akshay and Parineeti Chopra.

He contested in the general elections in the same year and finished in sixth place. In 2017, Kishan left INC and joined the Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP). In 2019, he again contested in the general elections against the Samajwadi Party candidate in Gorakhpur Constituency - he won the elections this time.
Army starred Sridevi, Shah Rukh Khan, Danny Denzongpa, Mohnish Behl, Ronit Roy and Ravi Kishan. Ravi Kishan and Akshay Kumar have worked together in many films including Zakhmi Dil, Keemat, Aan and Phir Hera Pheri. Once again they will be sharing the screen in their upcoming film Mission Raniganj.

Actor turned BJP MP Ravi Kishan on Monday claimed that the BJP in Meghalaya will build a film city if the party is voted to power in the February 27 assembly election.
Just as the party did in Uttar Pradesh, the BJP will do the same in Meghalaya, he said.
"Since the youth of Shillong are immersed in music and art, the BJP will build a film city here if voted to power," he said.
Kishan said it will create jobs for the youths in the state.
"From support staff to soundman, to technician, to artists, to managers, a wide variety of job vacancies will be created in the state by the film city," he said.
It will become a tool to showcase the beauty, diversity, culture, and rich traditions of Meghalaya to the rest of the world.
On the 'Pathan' film controversy, Ravi Kishen said, cinema industry must not make films that go against India's culture and 'sanskaar' (tradition). He, however, added that 'BJP is not against Bollywood or cinema industry'.
Ravi Kishan said, "Before 'Pathan' movie was released, our Prime Minister said clearly that BJP leaders and MPs must refrain from making comments. When Yogi Maharaj (UP CM) went to Mumbai, he said, film industry is a business where it provides jobs to many people, and it should be seen as a business. At the same time, film industry should remain within 'maan maryada' (limits of decency). Definitely, they must not make movies against our country or against our culture and sanskaar. You have seen the box office opening of 'Pathaan' and it has made more than Rs 1000 crore business. BJP is not against Bollywood or cinema industry."
Rajat Sharma played a 22-year-old Bhojpuri movie clip of a female actor dancing in Ravi Kishan's film, while wearing saffron dress, and asked: "Do you want to say that no more questions will now be raised on saffron coloured bikini?"

I have seen pile of dead bodies in front of my eyes, bodies floating in Ramgarh lake, I also witnessed gunshots, I saw criminals waving guns, but when Maharaj Ji came to power in 2017, he ensured law and order. Kishan has worked with SRK on Army and with Kumar on films like Zakhmi Dil, Keemat, Aan, and Phir Hera Pheri. He is now gearing up for the biographical drama film Mission Raniganj, starring Kumar and Parineeti Chopra.
Mission Raniganj is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai and written by Desai along with Vipul K Rawal and Deepak Kingrani. The film is based on the 1989 Raniganj coalfields disaster where engineer Jaswant Singh Gill saved around 65 trapped miners. It also stars Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra and Varun Badola among others. Earlier titled The Great Indian Rescue, the film's title was changed to Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue. It has released theatrically today, on October 6th.
