Hi ladies... t was great to catch up with all of you these past few days. I have been doing in some cases tireless advocacy work in the breast cancer space since my first stage lll diagnosis in 2007, then in 2010 I'm diagnosed with stage IV and i did what ever i could in between treatments and work and raising young kids...I have been working with various advocacy groups trying to help women get proper informed consent with breast implants and side effects for women with breast cancer. I am/we r working to change NCCN Guidelines to help women that are making reconstruction choices during breast cancer diagnosis and treatment. This survey is to collect data on the typical standard of care that is followed for patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer.

When you were first diagnosed with breast cancer, which surgery options were presented to you? Lumpectomy Unilateral Mastectomy Bilateral Mastectomy DIEP Flap Reconstruction TRAM Flap Reconstruction Flap reconstruction with breast implant Reconstruction with tissue expanders then breast implants Immediate reconstruction with breast implants (Direct to Implant) Aesthetic Flat Closure (going flat) Other Which surgery option did you choose after first being diagnosed with breast cancer? I do not have surgical mesh, alloderm or other dermal matrices to my knowledge Did your surgeon inform you of the risks of having breast implants, including not only typical risks of surgery but also the more dangerous risks such as BIA-ALCL, Breast Implant Illnesses, autoimmune diseases and other systemic symptoms? Yes, I was fully infomed. No, my surgeon did not tell me all of the above. When given your surgical options, did your surgeon inform you of the maintenance associated with having breast implants? a. Did they inform you that breast implants are not lifetime devices and that you will need revisions and replacements and they will need to be monitored? Yes, my surgeon informed me that I would need revisions and replacements which require additional surgery. No, my surgeon did not tell me all of the above. Did your surgeon discuss reconstruction options with just you or you and your spouse/significant other? Yes, my significant other was present. No, I discussed these options with just my surgeon. Was the opinion of your spouse or significant other a factor in making your reconstruction decision? Yes No Did surgical removal of your breast cause you significant distress?
