Dear, Dear, Cancer Barbies,

Once again, we have let way too much time go by without seeing each other. I have thought of you all so very often in the past few months. I kept thinking, I need to send an email! We are way overdue for a get-together! Especially when some in our group are still dealing with the ongoing struggle of fighting this relentless disease. We need each other, through the good times as well as the bad. Because we never know what life will bring or how it may get cut suddenly short.

And so in that vein, I am so sorry to have to send you some very, very sad news. Our dear friend Cathy Murray has passed away. As we all know, Cathy had been struggling with her cancer recurrence. But as always, she downplayed everything, always putting everyone else's needs and worries before her own, no matter how bad things got with her personally. I just received a phone call from her cousin, Mary, who took care of Cathy and was so important to her. Cathy had gone to hospice and then things happened quickly; she passed away on Monday. I only wish so very much that we had known so we could have supported her, as we have all supported each other for so long.

The wake is this Friday from 4-8 and the funeral on Saturday morning. Here is a link with the information:

It's hard to look at her smiling face on this page. I am currently at school and trying really hard to hold it together. I know Cathy would be saying, "It's okay, I'm okay. How are YOU doing??"

Cathy was a true friend to all of us, kind and funny and so caring. She will be missed dearly.
I hope to see you to grieve and celebrate her, and I only wish we would be seeing each other under better circumstances.

Sending love to all of you.

xoxo
Nancy

Oh no!! I am SO sad about this. You are so right - she was always stoic and not as concerned about herself as for others.

I will definitely try to be there - I have not even looked at the obit notice - I too am st work and feel I will get choked up. I can see her sunny smile!!
Susan

Oh no!  Cathy and I walked into our first support group together.  We attended a Martha Stuart Show taping together too - and crossed paths and emails occasionally since we all stopped going to the actual support group. Most recently I ran into her twice when she switched to my oncologist.  My heart is heavy.  I actually have chemo Friday and will try to get to the wake if I'm feeling up to it.  Perhaps Saturday instead.

Thank you so much for the smiling face of Cathy; she was truly a lady who inspired hope in all of us that the disease could not conquer our spirits;
May all of you be well.

OMG!
Thank you for sending Nancy...
I am beyond words a “mess”.  She totally uplifted us/me when ever we saw one another!  I could always see her smiling face in the back of my mind.  😂😎

Lisa, I still go for Herceptin/Kadcyla.. who do you still see?  Who is your doctor?  I’m at a cross road now... after many surgeries and treatments...   I really need to do something different... all under one roof and local!!   Reading about Cathy makes me really upset..  I thought she was in remission??

❌⭕️🙌🏻🙏❤️ to all!!
I’m willing to drive if anyone wants to ride with me??

Andrea -

I still go for Herceptin and just a few weeks ago switched to Xgeva from Zometa.  I take Femara (letrozole) daily.  I've been doing the same thing from the start - 14 years ago (except for the recent switch of bisphosphonates) - I am very very fortunate.

I see Bonni Guerin at Overlook.  Smart lady.  The nurses in the chemo suite are a gift.

Thanks, Nancy. This is so sad. Cathy was a very special person and in reading her obituary she was far more accomplished than I ever knew. I saw her last Spring or early summer at one of the concerts performed by the choir she had been in. She didn’t sing but it was a lovely night. I feel bad that I haven’t followed up with her.

I plan to go Friday and Saturday.

Nan

I am so saddened to receive this news. Cathy was a true friend with a magnanimous heart and spirit. She never wanted any focus on her but wanted to know everything about you. I am also sad we weren’t able to support her.

I will be at the funeral home Friday at 4. I need to leave by 4:45 because of hosting people for dinner before a show at MPAC. Hope to see some of you there to help celebrate Cathy’s life.

I had breast cancer surgery last week at MSKCC. A new type, not a recurrence. They say it’s early so I am hopeful.

Miss you and look forward to seeing you soon.

I am very sorry I will not be able to attend our dear friend Cathy’s wake.  She was such an inspiring woman who impacted each of us. Hearing of her passing I tried to hold back the tears. I was unsuccessful! As I cried,  I thought in life Cathy made me laugh so hard I cried why shouldn’t her passing be honored with tears. Sending love, hugs and prayers to all

Mary
