According to ICD10,  C43.4  is exclusive in the same encounter to D03.62 9 (and D03.61).

http://www.icd10data.com/ICD10CM/Codes/C00-D49/C43-C44/C43-

and from a more official source, the actual xml from ICD10 that confirms

listing:

direct file link:

    <section id="C43-C44">
      <desc>Melanoma and other malignant neoplasms of skin (C43-C44)</desc>
      <diag>
        <name>C43</name>
        <desc>Malignant melanoma of skin</desc>
        <excludes1>
          <note>melanoma in situ (D03.-)</note>
        </excludes1>
        <excludes2>
          <note>malignant melanoma of skin of genital organs (C51-C52, C60.-, C63.-)</note>
          <note>Merkel cell carcinoma (C4A.-)</note>
          <note>sites other than skin-code to malignant neoplasm of the site</note>
        </excludes2>

Are the testers aware of this? It came up in the manual entry for testcase4 when trying to enter D03.61 when our EMR prevented two codes that could not be billed on a single day. DO we need to provide a billing override to allow this?

We have testing tomorrow - should we be concerned about this issue? we have arranged our ICD10 excludes1 alerts to be optional, but would like to conform to the correct testing standard.

Thanks,
Nick

My apologies for the delayed response.

Interesting issue; no other vendors have raised concern. When you say that you have arranged your alerts to be optional, that means that you will now be able to manually enter both codes for testing purposes without any problems? If so, then you will be fine to go ahead with testing. This wasn’t meant to be any kind of trick; honestly, we weren’t aware of the exclusion when creating the test data. If I’ve misunderstood you, and you will not be able to manually enter both of these codes in yours system for testing, please let me know, and we’ll have to see what kind of alternative we can come up with. For future, we will can look at changing the values to address this issue.

Thanks,

Wendy

Wendy,

That's pretty much what we thought was the case. I don't see the need for anything to change - I'm just trying to be comprehensive about the testing and underlying datasets. I was the sort of kid who made sure we had all the homework assignments...

Thanks again,
Nick
