Hey Folks,

We are in the process of going through the 170.315(f)(4) Transmission to cancer registries 2015 edition quarterly attestation tests. We found what when we ran Test Case 1b Complete Cancer Record Without Radiation - Meredith Shepherd through the Schematron we got an error that states this family shall contain exactly one BR birth qualifier.

The error we’re seeing: "E [ISO Schematron] This family SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] @qualifier = "BR""

When we looked in the conformance guide it stated that <BR> is not required for <name use=\“L\“> and Meredith Shepherd does not have maiden name or other name in her test patient data.

Do any folks know how to resolve this issue and if this is already a known exception?

Thank you

Would anyone suggest alternative avenues for exploring these kinds of questions/escalating to additional areas?

Is there a separate forum to discuss issues with the schematron validation, or another way to reach the maintainers?

Thank you

This is the correct forum. My apologies for the delay.

The image you provided is of an appendix that is provided as additional information to help cancer registries understand the content and how it maps to their standard data elements; it is not the actual normative specification. The normative IG content is in the conformance statements in the main body of the specification, presented in the same standard way as other CDA docs.

The Schematron message is technically correct, but is lacking some context; here’s the complete conformance statement:

This patientRole SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] patient (CONF:1169-222).

1. This patient SHALL contain at least one [1..*] US Realm Patient Name (PTN.US.FIELDED) - Cancer IG Specific Constraints (identifier: urn:hl7ii:2.16.840.1.113883.10.13.18:2014-08-08) (CONF:1169-33034) such that it

a. SHALL NOT contain [0..0] @nullFlavor (CONF:1169-33035).

2. This patient SHOULD contain zero or one [0..1] name (CONF:1169-33880).

a. The name, if present, SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] family (CONF:1169-33881).

i. This family SHALL contain exactly one [1..1] @qualifier="BR" birth (CodeSystem: EntityNamePartQualifier urn:oid:2.16.840.1.113883.5.43) (CONF:1169-33882).

Note that the 2nd “name” conformance statement says that it “SHOULD” contain a name…”; this is a “branched” conformance. The first “US Realm Patient Name” is required (SHALL); the 2nd one is not required, but IF it is present, then the family name with “BR” qualifier must be present.

So, without seeing your sample file, I can’t say for sure what’s going on, but my guess is that you have two separate <name> elements in your file, and that neither of them has the a family name with “BR” qualifier. If so, then to fix you could fix it by either: 1) adding a maiden name (any will do since the test data doesn’t require one) or 2) removing the second name element (the one that doesn’t contain the required patient name info. But I’d need to see your file or a screen shot of the relevant content to confirm what the issue is. If neither of the fixes I suggested work, please feel free to send your test file so I can take a closer look

Thank you,

Wendy
