So, even if not a single, decent film script is spoken in Latin, my "second best" request is for subtitles. It would be amazing to watch, say Star Wars, Gladiator, Brave Heart, et cetera, with subtitles in Latin. A quick search in subtitles websites however shows nothing (many don't even have the option to search for Latin subtitles). Other forum threads have not been very positive either. Oh, and apparently the Passion of Christ is in Ecclesiastical Latin, but cannot find any other serious reference of this.
Is it me or is the trend of not including English subtitles (in non English speaking scenes only) starting to become a thing? I'm not talking about manually turning on subtitles for a whole movie/show, just the ones that should be baked into the video when an English speaking movie suddenly has scenes in another language.
Following a conversation can be a challenge for the deaf and hard of hearing. But what if you could pop on a pair of glasses and have subtitles appear in real time? That's the promise of a newly released app called XRAI Glass. It works with augmented reality glasses called Nreal Air (sold separately by a different company) to subtitle conversations.

The film was an overwhelming critical and commercial success. It received widespread acclaim, with critics praising its story, performances and direction, and the union of drama and comedy, despite some criticisms of using the subject matter for comedic purposes. The movie grossed over $230 million worldwide, including $57.6 million in the United States, is the second highest-grossing foreign language film in the U.S. (after Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon)[4] and one of the highest-grossing non-English language movies of all time.[5] The National Board of Review included it in the top five best foreign films of 1998.[6]
In Italy, the film was released in 1997 by Cecchi Gori Distribuzione.[16] The film was screened in the Cannes Film Festival in May 1998, where it was a late addition to the selection of films.[18] In the U.S., it was released on 23 October 1998,[13] by Miramax Films.[19] In Germany, it was released on 12 November 1998. In Austria, it was released on 13 November 1998. In the UK, it was released on 12 February 1999.[12] After the Italian, English subtitled version became a hit in English speaking territories, Miramax reissued Life Is Beautiful in an English dubbed version, but it was less successful than the subtitled Italian version.[20]
The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck: A Counterintuitive Approach to Living a Good Life is a 2016 nonfiction self-help book by American blogger and author Mark Manson.[1] The book covers Manson's belief that life's struggles give it meaning and argues that typical self-help books offer meaningless positivity which is neither practical nor helpful, thus improperly approaching the problems many individuals face. It was a New York Times and Globe and Mail bestseller.
The book is a reaction to the self-help industry and what Manson saw as a culture of mindless positivity that is not practical or helpful for most people.[4] Manson uses many of his own personal experiences to illustrate how life's struggles often give it more meaning, which, he argues, is a better approach than constantly trying to be happy.[5] Manson's approach and writing style have been categorized by some as contrarian to the general self-help industry, using blunt honesty and profanity to illustrate his ideas.[5][6]
Leaving the Defenders of the Deep to protect Hydropolis, the Sub-Mariner seeks out a long defected splinter sect of Atlanteans known as the Vodani. Namor attempts to forge an alliance by joining with the king's daughter, Kataw, to vanquish an ancient monster, but this turns out to be a ruse by the Vodani king Okun to leave him vulnerable, the Vodani having grown to despise what they see as impure Atlanteans. Namor flings himself at Okun, hoping to surface and use his airbreathing abilities to gain the upper hand, but realizes that the tunnel he passed through to reach the Vodani was in fact a portal to another world, and he has unwittingly cast them both into the vacuum of space, where he is only saved by the unexpected intervention of the Silver Surfer.[94] Namor, in conjunction with his colleagues in the Defenders, battles against Nebulon, a demon-empowered entity who has hijacked a cosmic train that burns planets as fuel, and has directed it to Vodan and ultimately towards Earth. Dr. Strange and Hulk manage to rescue Vodan from the furnace, instead sending it into the freezing void of space. Namor offers to let Kataw use her electricity redirection powers to siphon his bioelectric life force and give the Silver Surfer enough power to save the planet, a sacrifice he is willing to make as king. Furious at his arrogance after killing her father, she sacrifices her own life instead. After being exiled from their world, Namor acknowledges to the Silver Surfer that his offer was an attempt to undermine Kataw's rule and force an alliance, but his arrogance has cost yet another life.[95]
Namor possesses a telepathic rapport with all forms of marine life. He is able to mentally communicate with most forms of Ichthyoid, Cephalopod, Plankton, Anthozoa, Csnidarian, etc.; and can mentally persuade them to do his bidding. Namor can mentally communicate with other Atlanteans and give mental-telepathic orders to all his men.[114] He had a limited empathic rapport with Namorita, but only as a result of being given one of her "magic earrings" (which has long since disappeared).
In X-Men #6 (July 1964), X-Men leader Professor Xavier and antagonist Magneto each suspect Namor is a mutant and make efforts to recruit him. Later writers in the 1960s and 1970s described him as a hybrid, not a mutant, to distinguish him from the mutant X-Men.[131] When the series was revived in 1990, the series title logo carried the subtitle "Marvel's first and mightiest mutant!"
Some of the best thriller movies are the ones that have submersible vessels as the central theme of their plotlines. Also, since submersibles are majorly used as naval vessels, such submarine movies veer mostly towards war-time drama or fictional recounting of two opposing countries facing off against each other.
A German film, Das Boot (The Boat) charts the life of naval personnel confined within the U-boat U-96 during World War II. Based upon a fictitious novel of the same name, the plotline presented a different perspective about the German naval forces.
The plot deals with an insensible, submersible vessel that can hamper the fragile peace between the two nations and the hunt to capture and destroy it. The movie is regarded to be one of the best Hollywood movies to have ever been made.
Crimson Tide as number one; are you kidding??? This is probably one of the least believable submarine movies out there. Das Boot, Hunt for Red October, Run Silent Run Deep all much better movies. I put Crimson Tide about number 300.out of the 700+- submarine films out there. (259 of which I have in my collection)
The Abyss is a submersible not a submarine.
The Bedford Incident and Ice Station Zebra are movies with subs but not really submarine movies.
And U-571 makes the bottom 5 of this list if at all. #2, really! Ahead of Das Boot and The Hunt for Red October. Seriously!

Even smarty-pants know-it-all adults benefit from subtitles. In a related study, researchers found that highly literate adults remembered brand names better when they watched captioned TV commercials. Same-language video captions also boosted the memory and cognition of college students. In a 1998 study, researchers reported that college students remembered course content significantly better when they watched captioned course lectures.

One mistake many English students make is they do not actually make the movie a learning experience. Instead, they sit back and watch the movie the same way they watch movies in their own language.
