The National Geographic Society is an impact-driven global nonprofit organization that has awarded grants since 1890, with the aim to explore and document our world. Through our work we push the boundaries of exploration, furthering understanding of our world and empowering us all to generate solutions for a healthy, more sustainable future for generations to come. Our ultimate vision: a planet in balance. Part of this mission is to drive research of our origins as a species and the obstacles we have overcome, to understand our place on the planet today. For more information, please see: What We Fund.
The Uncovering Human Origins in Africa and Asia Request for Proposals (Human Origins RFP) grants initiative continues building on National Geographic’s legacy by supporting pioneering research in paleoanthropology and paleolithic archaeology in some of the most exciting areas of the world. The National Geographic Society acknowledges the importance of Southeast Asia in adding new chapters to our story as a species, and seeks to fund innovative research in the region through the Human Origins RFP.
To support Human Origins research in Southeast Asia, the National Geographic Society will conduct a 1.5 day grant writing workshop in Bangkok on June 21st and June 22nd 2019, in association with the SEAMEO-SPAFA conference. The workshop is intended primarily to support Southeast Asian nationals conducting paleoanthropology and/or paleolithic archaeology research in the region. Attendants will receive information about developing a successful National Geographic Society grant application, and will have the opportunity to practice these skills in an interactive, collaborative environment.
We kindly invite you to submit a Statement of Interest to participate in the grant writing workshop. The Statement of Interest can be accessed and completed through this link. The Statement of Interest must be completed in English.
We will prioritize applicants who are:
Southeast Asian nationals and/or researchers based in Southeast Asia;
Conducting research in paleoanthropology and/or paleolithic archaeology;
Have started, or are seeking opportunities to start a field school to build capacity in the region.
The National Geographic Society will invite 20 participants to submit a full grant application and attend the workshop. More details about the workshop will be available for invitees only. The National Geographic Society will provide workshop materials and lunch, but will not cover travel and stay costs during the workshop period.
We will receive Statements of Interest for the workshop until April 19th 2019, 5pm EST. Those accepted for the workshop will then be invited to submit a full Grant Application by May 31, 2019, 5pm EST. Submission of a complete grant proposal is required for participation in the workshop. A sample application is available here. While the workshop is an invitation-only event, participation in the workshop is not required to apply for an NGS grant. National Geographic Society grant applications may be submitted at any time by clicking the “Apply/Log In” button here.
Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you!
Please share this email and links with anyone that may be interested in this opportunity.
