Isn't it time that the governments at all levels stopped with this
rubbish talk about "reducing [the] energy bills" or "reducing water
consumption" or buying "energy saving light bulbs" all with the idea of
conning people into thinking that they will be actually saving money?
Some 10 years ago, when we here in the A.C.T. were going through a
severe drought, the A.C.T. government made a plea to the residents to
reduce their usage of water. The A.C.T. government simply made that plea
- and there were no legislative measures taken to back this plea.
And what happened?
All the A.C.T. residents responded, and the consumption of water dropped
dramatically.
But then what happened - and which is not very well known?
The government paid ACTEW-AGL millions of dollars in SUBSIDY - ie, paid
million of dollars of tax payers money - because ACTEW-AGL did not make
money from the severe reduction of water consumption, and the government
paid them for this loss.
In other words, you still paid big time for that water which you didn't
use.
And why was this done?
ACTEW-AGL and all other utility suppliers are in the business of making
PROFITS for the shareholders.
You reduce your consumption of electricity or water - and they simply
increase their charges to ensure that their profits remain the same.
