to Canasta
Hello to everyone on this long-dormant mailing list!

I don't know if this email will be just a one-off, or a return to active usage, but in any case, I'm happy to announce that Canasta 3.0 has been released!

There are two big changes in this version: first is that most of the code has been split off into a separate Docker image, CanastaBase, which is now the "base image" for the Canasta image - with the Canasta image just adding extensions and skins, and related functionalities. CanastaBase, in turn, includes MediaWiki 1.43 (that's the second big change). You can see the two repositories here:

https://github.com/CanastaWiki/Canasta

You can also read more at the documentation, some of which has been updated, including this page, which lists the current contents, including the current set of extensions and skins (which of course has been modified as well):

The big change with the split of the code is that now it should be much easier to make one's own Canasta-based Docker image: you no longer need to fork all the code, you can just create a fork/copy of the lightweight Canasta image, with your own listing of skins and extensions - it's much less code to maintain. And specifiying one's own set of skins and extensions is quite a bit easier as well, thanks to a YAML file format that allows for, among other things, inheriting from another file.

Thank you to everyone who worked on this new version - especially Naresh Kumar Babu and Sanjay Thiyagaran. I think the code is now in much better shape - in addition of course to supporting a more-recent version of MediaWiki, 1.43.

To anyone using Canasta: I hope you upgrade to the new version, and if you experience any issues, please report them right away on either GitHub repository.
