Hi all,

The canang.ca domain name is coming up for renewal, as it does
periodically. And I don't mind carrying this service as long as there
is interest. But, considering lack of activity in recent times, I have
to ask; is there any interest/desire in keeping this list going?

Bruce-

yes, things have been rather quiet lately. It might make sense to
discontinue, after first offering those who wish to stay connected on
FaceBook some time to set that up.

It seems to make sense to move to Facebook unless there are some who don't
want to join there, as long as we know how to stay connected that way.
I wish personally that everything didn't have to go to Facebook, but it
seems the way of the world...

Bruce,

I'm afraid I would suggest to close shop. Not only there is very little traffic, but I don't think we have had any new members in the last 2 years or so. Some have moved to Facebook and others could move too if this list were to close. Besides, there also is a forum on the National Church website and there are other discussion forums. For those who look beyond our borders, the United Church of Canada has a fairly active forum at http://wondercafe.ca .

Our National Church forum is at http://thecommunity.anglican.ca .
It could have a better design (I think), but there could be more lots more traffic than it presently has.

One suggestion, Bruce: would the National Church be interested in the Canang domain? If so, you could transfer ownership to them. One possibility would be that http://canang.ca would resolve to http://thecommunity.anglican.ca .

If not, I would suggest you add to all messages an auto-responder that says that the list closes on September 20th (i.e. a few days before the Sept. 25th deadline.

P.S. Thanks for your work on the forum for all those years.

How do I find CANANG on Facebook, please - my searching isn't working!

Blessings,
Jean.

We'd have to create a Group. Interesting idea; I had just been
thinking of individuals setting up connections with each other.

Oh, that's why I didn't find it! I don't think I'm Facebook-literate enough
to be able to connect with you all on Facebook individually!

Dear Bruce,

Thank you for the good work you have done with the Canadian Anglican list. I am not charmed with Facebook and while many people--perhaps most--like it, I find it difficult to use and  follow.

I have not contributed much in the past, and even less now...

I continue to live in Thailand.

Hi Michel,

Always good to hear from you.  I agree the anglican community is very modern design.  However, it seems boxed into "pc" topics and does not encourage free expression or sharing of personal events to the extent an email list is capable of.  However "the old order dieth" or something like that from Morte d'Arthur.

So, who would i contact to see if they are interested in the canang.ca domain name?

On the same topic, it seems to me the consensus is rapidly, if reluctantly, heading towards a Facebook page solution.  But your idea is reasonable and should be checked out first I think.

I would also send many thanks to Bruce for managing the Canadian Anglican list – I have enjoyed the conversation and the camaraderie over the past several years.

I don’t do Facebook well, but I hang in because it gives me the chance to see photos of my great-grandchildren now and then, when the opportunities to see them in person are few and far between.  I also can keep i touch with what other members of my family are doing – again, keeping me in touch when travel distances are prohibitive.

I continue to think of you in Thailand, Lance, faithfully following your vocation there.

With love and prayers for you all,
Jean.

Bruce,

I really don't know. At the base of The Community page, there is this email address under contact us: thecom...@national.anglican.ca
If not, it may come under the auspices of the general webmaster, at webma...@national.anglican.ca

If someone creates a Facebook page very quickly, another option might be to put an htaccess file with a redirect command in, so that either http://canang.ca or http://canang.ca/facebook lands on the new Facebook page of the list.  It could work from, say, September 1st to 25th, when our domain falls into oblivion. That way, it is easier to find the right address than through a general search on the Facebook search engine.
A similar example is what I have done with our parish website:
website at:  http://stjamestheapostle.ca
Facebook at:  http://stjamestheapostle.ca/facebook
Twitter at:  http://stjamestheapostle.ca/twitter

Regarding Facebook, we could create a Facebook page. But I really wonder if it would be more active than the official Church page on Facebook at https://facebook.com/canadiananglican .
If anyone has a good example of a community Facebook page of a parish or ministry that has really grown into a good forum, please tell me! I haven't found any yet.
