I've been grappling with this for a while and can't seem to find a satisfactory answer anywhere.  It has to do with the fast, slow and normal signs.  Seems simple right?  When you see the fast sign, you go faster than normal, hit slow and go slower than normal.

But what happens if you are on fast or slow, and you run into, say a "sit-stand-sit" for example?  I've been told that this never happens, but there is nothing that prohibits this scenerio in the rulebook.  My interpretation in the example would be that I would need to go at a fast pace, do the sit-stand-sit, then go at fast pace again.

Some people have said that after the sit- stand-sit, you go at a normal pace.  Others have said that you always get a normal sign right after a fast or slow.  So who's right?

Here's the scenerio in more graphic form

Signs are              Fast or Slow                       Sit-stand-sit

Scene 1                 go fast/slow                        perform sit/stand/sit      Keep going fast/slow after
Scene 2                go fast/slow                        perform sit/stand/sit      Go normal speed
Scene 3                go fast/slow                        "This never happens even though legal"

Thanks.

George.

Hi George

I think you are incorrect in your assumptions.

The old rule was
The slow pace and fast pace signs MUST be followed by the normal pace sign, unless they are used as
the last station before the team crosses the finish line.

The new rule is
The slow pace may be followed by a fast pace and the fast pace may also be followed by a slow pace
however this sequence of two different paces must be followed by a normal pace OR be the second to
last station in a course. If only one change of pace is required (either fast or slow) it must be followed
by a normal pace OR be the second to last station in a course.

This is found on Page 75 of the handbook.
