Check out National Bank Direct Brokerage.  They since Monday the 23rd of August now have no commission to buy/sell Canadian and US equities.  They still have commissions for options trading but this is definitely better than Wealthsimple Trade which was good for free Canadian trading but wasn't any good for buying US stocks as they won't let us hold US dollars in the account and every transaction was subject to currency conversion charges.

National Bank allows us to hold US$ and US electronic funds transfer from your US accounts at Canadian banks, so no currency conversion and US trading.  Only downside is there are still commissions for options trading.

Thanks for this! I left National Bank 10 years ago because they gave me the worst financial advice ever, but maybe it's time to go back. Especially, as Qtrade is instituting fees for depositing share certificates and DRS.

I am so pleased to find this information hear and wonder how the National Bank Direct Brokerage has been working for you.

I intend to buy Canadian and US equities, stocks only, so the options charge wouldn't me be a deal breaker for me.

So.... how has NBDB been treating you? Would you recommend it over Wealthsimple?

Thanks in advance!
