Hi All,

Happy Canadian Thanks Giving! For Wednesday, we were asked to identify the ACTION in the story that had become the driving factor for change. In our story, we have two options. Once we have decided which ACTION we prefer, or if we would like to keep BOTH, we will submit drawings that represent this/these ACTION(S). This drawing is to NOT INCLUDE architecture. It is simply meant to identify which ACTION(S) will DRIVE the architecture.

1) The Grandfather, in his old age, has taken to the Eastern Tradition of the Bonsai. His wife is gone, he is becoming less and less concerned with the other activities in the household, and the Husband and Wife have taken to entertaining guests more and more often. The ACTION we must research and then DRAW in this case is the Bonsai. It occupies the time he spends on his own, and provides an activity that the whole family can encourage him with. How does it represent the changes in the household? How does the tending of it reflect on architecture?

2) Entertaining. How does the move out of their children effect the lives of the two parents? What changes in routine do they experience now that they are retired? What activities do large groups of Japanese 50+ aged couples participate in? What games/activities are suitable for home entertaining? What is the culture in Japan for entertaining guests? How does all of this effect the Grandfather?

Think on it and try to make a decision that will lead to the BEST ACTION(S) for developing the family's home.
