Relocation News: B.C. woos Germany for Workers

The B.C. Construction Association in British Columbia, Canada is hoping
to alleviate an expected shortfall of almost 15,000 tradespeople by
2009, and an additional 20,000 tradespeople by 2014, with an influx of
skilled German workers.

A dozen B.C. companies will visit job fairs in Berlin and Essen this
February, to take advantage of the country's almost 11 percent
unemployment rate by bringing over several hundred bricklayers,
roofers, and carpenters.

The province is spending $102 billion on construction projects by 2013,
but an aging workforce has created a serious shortage of employees.
However, Germany's economy is growing, and although the imported
laborers will help reduce the workforce gap, they will only be a small
part of the solution...
