Evasions of Extradition

Query:

We have had trouble extraditing accused criminals from Israel. Will
the situation improve with Canaan?

Reply:

Assuredly. There will always be litigation among the United States
over one State's demanding the return or trial of an alleged criminal
discovered in another State. But the law of extradition is workable
and uniform among the States. Israel, like most South American and
European nations, does not extradite its citizens, anticipating that
they will get a fairer legal process in Israel. Also Israelis would
rather escape American justice and flee to Israel for presumed trial,
or no trial at all. Just recently, a murderer, a rich money-laundering
couple, and six gangsters have been evading American law by running to
Israel. Accusations against the Israeli government for providing a
haven for criminals with Israeli connections are not uncommon, and
affect not only America but other countries such as France, Britain
and Russia. American legal officers profess concern over a trend of
flight to Israel to avoid American justice. With 50 States already
employing among themselves an extradition system that works, the
accession of Canaan to Statehood should diminish such problems.
