We used to have black flies in the Dallas area, here
in Texas, when I was a kid.
But the elimination of clean streams eliminated that problem.
A couple of months ago, I caught a hatchling perch in the culvert
behind my house, it had a twisted spine, near it's tail. I assume it
is an environmental deformity.
The culvert eventually drains into the Trinity River, where quite a
few suburbs, including Irving, use it for drinking water.
The fish seems to be doing well in my ten gallon aquarium, but the
deformity persists.
The groundwater in Tarrant County is so polluted by Diazanon that it
is unfit for consumption. The groundwater in Dallas county is polluted
to dangerous levels by nitrates.
Once chemical treatment of water goes into decline as NG falls off it's
cliff, I wonder where the drinking and bathing water will come from?
