I have no specific tips for that area, but for most areas there is a
relatively easy way if one wants to stay away from the road warriors. It
comes down to two words: maps + GPS.
I normally go for moose in #40 There is a number of road hunters there,
but that's no problem. I just look for a place that is not to far off a
beaten track. A place that there are no (human) tracks / trails to.
Nobody goes there because few of us enjoy ploughing straight through the
woods, unless we know what to expect there. Well, topo maps help with
that and when used with GPS, finding new spots is a breeze and even fun.
My job does not allow me to much time to drive several hundreds
kilometres to do much scouting ahead of the season, so most of the time
I have to relay on the last soon experience + scouting that I do over
the maps.
I found GPS and maps to be not only very useful, but also a lot of fun
and now I co-author a hobby, GPS navigation dedicated website
www.gpsnuts.com and even got (part time) into (mostly topo) map
business.
