Works great. Just set your speed (at the kicker) and direction. The big
motor being lined up with the little one helps alot with control.
Issues.
1) the clip that they mount can make the kicker motor hard or impossible to
tilt up if you have a motor lock since the ball mount device may hit the
lock. I had to change from the bar lock mechanism to a locking screw.
2) watch for your gas and control cables coming between the control rod and
anything hard (like the boat itself). You can pinch or squeeze your gas line
or other cables. I make sure I have those cables free and over top the rod
when I connect. I have made the mistake of doing it the other way ... :-)
3) changing speed. I still have to go back to the motor to change the speed.
This happens lots if it is windy and the boat starts to turn in the wind
since you need to gun it to fix the boat position and then go back to slow
speed. Can be annoying. If you fish with a friend he can adjust the speed
for you using advanced voice commands :-). Another buddy of mine has same
setup but with a power control stick up front (on an 8 4-stroke) and it
works nice.
Good luck,
John

Thought about a steering assist so that I could use the wheel, but the
throttle remote and shifter remote is too complicated and expensive.

I have a hinged extension and can't imagine using a straight one. The
u-joint is plenty strong for the forces applied.
