I have a14' Smokercraft, rated for a 30hp long shaft. I am presently using
a 10hp Honda, it's too underpowered. The new Evinrude 15hp 4strokes
interest me, but the weight is a factor. Would the 15hp Johnston 2stroke
give me more torque and speed (because it's 30lbs lighter) or would the
torque of a 4 stroke equal the 2 stroke in performance.

The displacement of the Evinrude over a 15hp Honda is more, would this
motor give more torque even though it has the same hp rating as the Honda?

How good are the Evinrudes in the winter months, I do a lot of winter
fishing, and carb freeze up concerns me. I have seen the new 4 stroke
Merc's have a major problem with this.

Do the new 2strokes smoke and stink or are they relatively clean? If I buy
a stroke, it will do double duty as a kicker for my 19' glass boat.

thanks.........brian

The two stroke 15 will outperform the 4 stroke in every way in power and torque.
The price for that is a bit of noise and a small amount of smoke.

I haven't run one of the four strokes in anything real cold yet. Nothings been
raised at service school to my knowledge either.

You will get a bit of smoke at start-up, then it will run almost smoke free.

2 stroke or 4?

Thanks for the reply Dave, I think I will stick to the 4 stroke and
sacrifice the power difference......thanks again....brian
