Shreveport Citizens Disarmed By Police For 2nd Amendment Bumper Stickers

Argue With Everyone | According to the Shreveport mayor, a police officer
may properly disarm any civilian at any time, and the civilian's duty is to
surrender his gun - willingly, readily, cheerfully, without cavil or
question.

............

July 7, 2009

Welcome to Shreveport: Your rights are now suspended.According to Cedric
Glover, mayor of Shreveport, Louisiana, his cops "have a power that [. . .]
the President of these Unites States does not have": His cops can take away
your rights.

And would you like to guess which rights he has in mind?

Just ask Shreveport resident Robert Baillio, who got pulled over for having
two pro-gun bumper stickers on the back of his truck - and had his gun
confiscated.

While the officer who pulled him over says Baillio failed to use his turn
signal, the only questions he had for Baillio concerned guns: Whether he had
a gun, where the gun was, and if he was a member of the NRA. No requests for
a driver's licence, proof of insurance, or vehicle registration - and no
discussion of a turn signal.

Accordingly, Baillio told the officer the truth, which led the police
officer to search his car without permission and confiscate his gun.

However, not only does Louisiana law allow resident to drive with loaded
weapons in their vehicles, but Mr. Baillio possessed a concealed carry
license!

What does such behavior demonstrate, other than transparent political
profiling - going so far as to use the infamous Department of Homeland
Security report on "Americans of a rightwing persuasion" as a how-to
guidebook, no less?

Mr. Baillio made no secret of his political affiliations: An American flag
centers a wide flourish of pro-freedom stickers and decals on his back
windshield.

In fact, when Baillio asked the officer if everyone he pulls over gets the
same treatment, the officer said no and pointed to the back of his truck.

Baillio phoned Mayor Glover to complain about this "suspension of rights"
only to find that his city's morbidly obese "commander in chief" was elated
at the story: According to Glover, Baillio got "served well, protected well,
and even got a consideration that maybe [he] should not have gotten."

Thankfully, Mr. Baillio recorded a good bit of that phone call. You can
watch a video with the transcriptions here. I've reproduced a chunk of the
call below:

Baillio: (in the context of being asked about the presence of a gun) Well, I
answered that question honestly, and he disarmed me.

Glover: Which would be an appropriate and proper action, sir. The fact that
you gave the correct answer - it simply means that you did what it is you
were supposed to have done, and that is to give that weapon to the police
officer so he could appropriately place it in a place where it would not be
a threat to you, to him, or to anyone in the general public.

Glover: My direction to you is that, had you chosen not to properly identify
the fact that you had a weapon and directed that officer to where that
weapon was located; had you been taken from the vehicle, and the officer, in
the interest of his safety, chose to secure you in a safe position, and then
looked, found, and determined that you did, in fact, have a weapon.then,
sir, you would have faced additional, [inaudible], and more severe criminal
sanctions.

Baillio: So what you're saying is: I give up all my rights to keep and bear
arms if I'm stopped by the police: Is that correct?

Glover: Sir, you have no right, when you have been pulled over by a police
officer for a potential criminal offense [which would be what?! - DB] to
stand there with your weapon at your side in your hand [Baillio's weapon was
nowhere near his side or his hand, and Glover knew that. -- DB] because of
your second amendment rights, sir. That does not mean at that point your
second amendment right has been taken away; it means at that particular
point in time, it has been suspended.

.................

Will Grigg from ProLibertate, an excellent freedom blog, has this to say:

According to Glover, a police officer may properly disarm any civilian at
any time, and the civilian's duty is to surrender his gun - willingly,
readily, cheerfully, without cavil or question.

From Glover's perspective, it is only when firearms are in the hands of
people other than the state's uniformed enforcers/oppressors that they
constitute a threat, not only to the public and those in charge of
exercising official violence but also to the private gun owner himself.

NAGR spoke with Mr. Baillio, and he told us that he's in the process of
securing the official procedures and codes for firearm handling and private
property confiscation for the Shreveport police department.

So far, the city has been half-heartedly cooperating with him.

"I felt sick," Baillio told NAGR. "My uncles didn't die for this country so
I could surrender my rights like a wimp. I felt terrible. I was just
thinking of all that my family has done for freedom in this nation -
including dying - and here they are disarming me at a traffic stop."

What to do?

1. Read Luke's commentary here, and participate in the discussion by leaving
a comment.
2. Send this around. This kind of behavior cannot go unchecked.
3. Call Mayor Glover's office to complain: (318) 673-5050.

I'll leave you with one last consideration. As a licensed firearms
instructor in charge of a hundred different students every month, I'm often
asked if citizens should voluntarily inform police officers of the presence
of a firearm during a routine traffic stop.

While different states have different laws, my answer for Colorado citizens
is an emphatic "No": Colorado law doesn't require you to volunteer that kind
of information, and this case in Louisiana proves why, if at all possible,
you should never invite trouble by doing so.

So what does this have to do with Canada or B.C?

Yes Mark, explain your posting and its connection with Canadians or
Canadian Law. We have even more severe laws in this respect...do YOU
obey them or are you a rebel?...(without a cause of course).

I just made a post calling for accountability from police, and you claim I
support police violence.

Cops aren't above the law but they seem very adept at getting away with
their crimes. An off-duty cop strikes a motorcyclist at an intersection,
then while the guy lies dead or dying on the cop runs to a pub and sucks
back a couple of shots of hard liquor... a legal tactic to discredit any
breath or blood sample evidence taken. A person in police custody dies and
the video tape mysteriously goes missing. Yadda yadda. You don't think
more accountability would be a good thing?

Accountablity is a good thing, but the problem is that many people
(inclduing the cop) end up getting fast talking lawyers
who work only for the fee and not much into the circumstance.

If there's accountability involving some headcase type similar to Mark
Hansel, well no thanks.

Sorry Norm, I responding to Kent first just to show him how wrong he is
again.....then I will get to you next...

Ahhh...it never seems to amaze myself with you type of socilaist kooks Kent,
who lap up every piece of political poop to justify one set of gender kooks.
So Very nice Kent, so you don't mind using opinions based on propaganda and
used by feminists and shoved in legislation and put forth by extermists and
radicals...who want total control over the family\ Now remember Kent all
this kind of stuff was brought out in the suprme court and a judge ruled and
the feminst kooks admited on the stand that this is only their opinions.
Remember that famous line from George Orwell's Animal Farm: "All animals are
equal, but some animals are more equal than others"? Mr. Orwell, here are
two more examples to add to your collection:

1. On April 20 last, sports pages around the country featured a picture of
the Catherine Ndereba of Kenya with upraised arms, the "winner" of the
Boston Marathon. She won not by virtue of being the fastest runner, but
because the female runners had started the race 29 minutes before the men.

That day the Boston Globe ran an article carrying the headline, "New Rule
Engenders Equal Footing."
ers_equal_footing/) If giving women a half hour head-start is an "equal
footing," then would someone please explain inequality to me?

2. Fox News ran an article in late August about American military women in
Iraq (www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,130106,00.html). This was the lead
sentence: "Today, equality of the sexes includes dying in combat."

The article highlighted the statistic that 24 female soldiers had died in
Iraq. As of that time, one thousand American troops had perished -- 24
female and 976 male. If we do a little math, it turns out that only 2.4% of
combat deaths are female. That's equality of the sexes?

In both stories, the reporter massacred the obvious meaning of "equality."
But where was the outrage? The fact that no one murmured a word of protest
says something about the mental anesthesia that grips our collective
awareness.

In his recent book The War Against Men, Professor Richard Rise of Texas A&M
University notes, "the female propaganda machine is relentless." My last
four columns have traced the outlines of this machine:

First, erect an elaborate mythology that begins with the Great Myth of
Patriarchy. Then embellish it with a series of urban legends that "men have
all the power," "marriage is a legalized form of slavery," and so on.
Remember that emotional impact, not historical accuracy is what counts
(www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/r/roberts/2004/roberts100604.htm).

Then introduce a gender perspective to the mass media. Portray men as
unworthy and women as entitled. Never allow men to be depicted as victims.
There's nothing subtle here -- the key is the sheer mind-numbing repetition
of the Ms.-Information
(www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/r/roberts/2004/roberts092204.htm).

Take the claim that women suffer from wage discrimination, for instance. On
the average, women are paid 76 cents for every dollar that men earn. Groups
such as the National Center for Policy Analysis have found that when
differences in work hours and other factors are taken into account, the
gender wage gap disappears (www.ncpa.org/pub/ba/ba392/).

But during last week's presidential debate, one of the candidates couldn't
resist the urge to dust off the old canard that women receive unequal pay
for equal work. Score one for the rad-fem PR campaign.

Third is the tactic of inciting gender conflict. V.I. Lenin employed the
concept of class consciousness to instigate class warfare. As an offshoot of
Marxist-Leninist thought, it is no surprise that radical feminism now seeks
to promote gender consciousness in order to drive a wedge between men and
women. Women have been put upon all these years, so isn't turn-about fair
play? (www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/r/roberts/2004/roberts101304.htm)

In the final phase of the propaganda campaign, everyday speech becomes
sprinkled with ideologically-loaded words like "gender." Male-derivative
words like "chairman" are banned, but female expressions like "Mother Earth"
continue in use. Once persons internalize the terminology and logic of
Fem-Speak, you could almost say they have become brainwashed
(www.mensnewsdaily.com/archive/r/roberts/2004/roberts092804.htm).

So when mainstream media outlets such as the Boston Globe and Fox News use
the word "equality" to denote its exact opposite -- and nobody seems to
mind -- you know that we're in trouble.

Almost sixty years ago George Orwell wrote a prescient essay titled
"Politics and the English Language." Deploring the way language was being
used to manipulate and deceive, Orwell wrote: "Political language.is
designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an
appearance of solidity to pure wind."

Who can doubt that the feminist propaganda campaign has now reached
Orwellian proportions? Welcome to the world of Fem-Prop.

Study Examines Why Abused Men Don't Leave Their Wives
July 1st, 2009 by Glenn Sacks, MA, Executive Director

I recently attended the excellent Los Angeles domestic violence conference
"From Ideology to Inclusion 2009: New Directions in Domestic Violence
Research and Intervention."

The conference featured many domestic violence dissidents-researchers and
clinicians who do not believe that the mainstream domestic violence
establishment and its "men as perpetrators/women as victims" conceptual
framework is properly serving those involved in family violence.

When discussing male victims of domestic violence on the radio, I'm often
asked "Why don't they just leave?" My response has always been that they are
in a difficult Catch-22:

They can't leave their wives because this would leave their children
unprotected in the hands of an abuser. If they take their children, they can
be arrested for kidnapping, and in any case when they're found, the children
will be taken away and given to the mother. Moreover, they would probably
lose custody of their children in the divorce anyway, again leaving their
children in harm's way.

Denise Hines, Ph.D. is a research assistant psychology professor at Clark
University and a research associate at the Family Research Laboratory and
Crimes Against Children Research Center at the University of New Hampshire.
At the conference, Dr. Hines gave a presentation based on her study of this
issue. What options do abused men have? And when they don't leave their
wives, why not?

Hines' study included 302 heterosexual men, ages 18 to 59, who had been in a
relationship lasting at least one month within the previous year, had been
physically assaulted by their female partners within the previous year, and
had sought outside assistance/support. The median age of the abused men was
40, and the median age of their abusive female partners was 38. The
relationships had lasted on average a little over eight years, and 73% of
them had minor children. About two-thirds were married, separated, or
divorced.

Hines found that there were many different answers to the question "Why not
leave her?" These included: "marriage is for life," love, "I think she'll
change," "not enough money," "nowhere to go," "embarrassed others will find
out," "she threatened suicide," and "she threatened to kill someone else."

However, the biggest reason why these study respondents said they did not
leave their wives or female partners was that they were "concerned about the
children." Of these, the overwhelming majority thought that if they left
their abusive partners, they may "never see their children again." One
explained, "I was advised that if I leave, I would hurt my chances of
gaining custody of the children in the long run."

Many also feared that if they left their abusive partners, the partners
would use the legal system against them. One abused man explained:

She has promised to lie and accuse me of physical abuse against her, sexual
abuse of our daughter, if that helps her win custody.

Unfortunately, we know that such tactics are often effective. Another abused
man responded:

She threatened to ruin me financially, ruin my professional reputation (we
worked together), lock me out of the house, and tell the police anything she
wants to tell them.

To read all reports from the Conference, please click here.

From Ideology to Inclusion 2009 featured some of the world's leading experts
on domestic violence, many of whom serve on the Editorial Board of the new
peer-reviewed academic journal, Partner Abuse, published by Springer
Publishing Company. The conference was presented by the California Alliance
for Families & Children and co-sponsored by The Family Violence Treatment &
Education Association. Some of you may remember that I also wrote
extensively about the 2008 conference-to learn more, click here.

no David, you have in the past and defended the action of the RCMP and local
police many times...you seem to forget quite often...

Where I live it has been the same type of police action, as I had a fellow
the other day who phoned myself want legal advice on trump up nonsense from
the police and where police claim their had a court order to remove a
persons weapons and note..... he had every licence going to legally have
those weapons....It turns out, the police lied and had no court order of any
kind, which now they will be sued for.......and they will have to return
those weapons...I really feel sorry for the cop though, because if he wasn't
so corrupt in the forst place he wouldn't have trouble like he has now..

Who would be stupid enough to phone you for legal advice (you're not a real
lawyer just a kook who spends time interpeting what he thinks is the law and
not phone a real lawyer instead? Besides you wouldn't
give much of an opinon looking at all the facts.

Where you live is Victoria B.C. and there isn't the same type of police
action. If there has been, list it here:

he had every licence going to legally have

Why comment on the post when you couldn't spell correctly when writing it?

You're obviously foaming at the mouth again.

Yeeeeah. You'll forgive me if I don't take your word for it. You
have a severe reading disability after all.

You've been writing nonsense for years, so what else is new with you?

and yes you have a severe comprehension and writing disability. Re-read some
of your recent posts. Errors and spelling
errors and alot of rhetoric that doesn't make much sense (but only to you).

If you didn't, you wouldn't keep offering citations that don't support
your claims.

Your too lazy to provide biblographic information as to the source for
everything you provide here. Some you have but
alot you haven't.

Learn how to present researched material correctly before posting.

and besides where did you get the idea that your opinions are the only
correct ones? (you trash opinions contrary to
your own, which means you obviously don't know how to engage in good
constructive balanced debate, hence the
regular ragging on your opinions from alot of people here).

in garlic, as you must have been at the government Swine Flu

Well why don't you stop whining about vaccines and everything else that
causes you to flail your arms in panic?

You cry like a baby every time there's news about the H1N1 vaccines.
