Conneaut -- Ted Soke, who fatally stabbed a former Plain Dealer
executive editor and his wife, died in prison on Wednesday of natural
causes.
Ashtabula County coroner's investigator Rich Mongell said Soke died of
acute coronary heart disease.
Soke, 66, was serving life in prison at the Lake Erie Correctional
Institution in Conneaut when he had a heart attack. He died at Brown
Memorial Hospital in Conneaut, the coroner said.
Soke was twice convicted of the 1985 slaying of former Plain Dealer
Executive Editor Philip Porter and his wife, Dorothy, in their Shaker
Heights home. Soke's son, Donald, testified against his father and
said they broke into the Porters' home to steal money and were
surprised the couple was there.
An appeals court overturned Soke's first conviction and a death
sentence based on inconsistencies in Donald Soke's testimony. It
ordered a new trial, which ended in a life sentence.
Soke, a longtime member of the Hells Angels motorcycle gang, was in
prison for raping his wife when he was convicted of killing the
Porters.
Donald Soke remains in the Lebanon Correctional Institution, where he
is serving a life sentence for the Porter murders and the slaying of
Eastlake housewife Karen LaSpina. Ted Soke was indicted for the
LaSpina murder, but the case was dismissed after his son changed his
testimony several times.

Oneida County Sheriff's deputies are being honored today for bringing
down a local group of Hell's Angels members. Authorities say the
criminal group was trafficking cocaine into Central New York. All
suspects have since been successfully prosecuted.

A Niagara Hells Angel sentenced to 11 years in jail Tuesday is the
first in Ontario to be convicted of directing others to act for a
criminal organization.
Kenneth Wagner -- the No. 2 man in the Niagara chapter -- was handed
the sentence in a Toronto courtroom. "This is a message for those
bikers and those who subscribe to that subculture that it will not
pay," federal prosecutor Tom Andreopoulos said in a telephone
interview after court. Wagner, 43, pleaded not guilty to the criminal
organization charge but was convicted last week by Judge John McMahon.
The sentence also includes charges of trafficking cocaine and having
$150,675 in proceeds of crime, which Wagner pleaded guilty to on Sept.
9. Andreopoulos said Wagner was like the "quarterback" of the Niagara
chapter. Wagner bossed others around while insulating himself from the
actual drug and weapon dealings because he was an executive,
Andreopoulos said. Police and prosecutors say Gerald (Skinny) Ward was
the No. 1 man in the Niagara chapter.
The pair were among 15 Hells Angels swept up in a provincewide
crackdown on the motorcycle gang and its associates in September 2006.
Project Tandem, run by the joint forces Ontario Biker Enforcement
Unit, arrested 24 people and seized $3 million in drugs. When police
searched Wagner's Port Colborne home, they found internal police
documents, cash and a bulletproof vest. Last week, McMahon ruled the
Hells Angels, including the Niagara chapter located in Welland, is a
criminal organization. Wagner, a single father of two adult children
who has been in custody since his arrest two years ago, remains a
member of the club, but told the court he is hoping to retire. The
Crown had argued Wagner serve an additional 10 years, while the
defence requested he serve an extra three. Andreopoulos said Tuesday
Wagner will serve an additional six years and eight months.
The judge credited him with four years and four months of pre-trial
custody. Andreopoulos said the judge thoroughly analyzed Wagner's
circumstances and took into account the fact he has no previous
criminal record. Wagner has agreed to forfeit the cash, his truck,
motorcycle and house on Highway 3, which has no equity.

This is significant because it marks the third time that a Cdn Judge
has ruled the Hell's Angels Motorcycle Club a criminal organization.
This means that just being a member of it is the same as being a
criminal. This paves the way for any member, associate or supporter to
be imprisoned if they do anything for or receive any benefit from the
motorcycle club. Happy hunting law enforcement. This ruling is a
reminder that all Judges are not of the Peter Leask mode. This is not
the time to let up on this criminal org but is in fact the time to
redouble efforts to eradicate them from this country.

A full-patch member of the Oshawa Hells Angels faces a seven-year
prison term after pleading guilty to plotting to murder his own
brother over drug trafficking turf.
James Heickert, 46, of Port Hope, admitted in a Winnipeg courtroom
that he planned a hit on his own brother, Sean, a rival drug dealer.
James Heickert was on probation for drug dealing in Ontario, while
Sean Heickert served a seven-year prison term in the 1990s for the
beating death of an Oshawa man.
"There are no good guys in this conflict. They're all villains," Crown
prosecutor Chris Mainella told court on Wednesday.
Maniella said a rash of murders and attempted murders in Thompson,
Man., are directly linked to drug dealing. There have been 10 murders
and attempted murders in Thompson in the past three years.
"Trying to assess the virtue in the Thompson drug trade is likened to
trying to pass out speeding tickets at the Indy 500," said Mainella.
There are plenty of drug customers in Thompson, which has a population
of just 13,250, Mainella said.
"There are lots of well-to-do miners and government workers," Mainella
said.
At the time of the plot, James Heickert was on probation, after
pleading guilty in March 2007 to trafficking 10 pounds of marijuana.
He was sentenced to 12 months in jail and 24 months' probation in that
case. Playing lesser roles in the failed Manitoba murder plan were
Stanley Lucovic, 45, and Dean Gurniak, 34, both of Thompson, who
received five and four years in prison respectively.
Police learned of the plot on secret audio surveillance last winter
during an undercover operation.
They warned Sean Heickert last December, and then arrested his brother
and the other two men. Sean Heickert survived another attempt on his
life. He and another man were the targets of a botched drive-by
shooting in August.
Sean Heickert was in the news in Ontario two decades ago, after Terry
Spindler, 21, was kidnapped from a boozy Christmas celebration in the
Genosha Hotel's Playpen strip club in Oshawa.
Spindler, five-foot-seven, 125 pounds, was abducted and beaten by
several men, including Sean Heickert, who was working off a drug debt.
He was vomited on by one man, then urinated on by another. His frozen
body was found by police.
After Sean Heickert was found guilty of manslaughter in 1990, he
uttered several oaths at a Crown attorney and a Durham Region
detective, before his mother told him, "Just shut up, don't make it
worse."

Welland Hells Angel charged with smuggling

TORONTO — A senior member of the Hells Angels who runs a Niagara
Region car dealership has been charged with smuggling high-end cars
and trucks from the United States.
Timothy Panetta, 39, of Wainfleet, was hit Wednesday with 14 charges,
including three of uttering forged documents and three of fraud.
His arrest is the latest blow for the Niagara chapter of the biker
club, headquartered in a bunker-like building across the road from an
ostrich farm in Welland.
Panetta’s arrest comes a day after Kenneth Wagner, 43, also of the
Niagara Hells Angels chapter, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for
trafficking cocaine and directing others to commit crimes for the
benefit of a criminal organization.
The chapter’s president, Gerald Ward, 60, of Welland, is in custody
awaiting sentencing on drug trafficking charges and charges of
directing others to commit crimes for a criminal organization.
Panetta was identified as vice-president and former president of the
Niagara Hells Angels chapters in documents filed in the Ward and
Wagner cases.

Police arrested 14 people in various parts of the country yesterday in
connection with the ongoing battle between bikers and immigrant gangs.
The trouble started in Odense where a member of the Hells Angels AK81
support group was beaten with a baseball bat. Two members of an
immigrant gang were later detained.

Shortly afterwards a police patrol stopped and searched a car in which
five biker-related men were travelling. Ammunition was found in the
vehicle, but no guns.
That discovery caused police to search the Hells Angels clubhouse in
the area where more ammunition was found, but no weapons. A member of
the Hells Angels was arrested.
At one point, police were tipped off that the Hells Angels had called
in reinforcements. Patrols stopped a vehicle containing four members
of the AK81 group on their way from Randers, but the four were
released as nothing illegal was found in the car.
Two others were arrested in Odense, one of whom was carrying a knife.

A Hells Angels associate has been sentenced to six years in prison
after police made what is described as Canada's largest seizure of the
date rape drug GHB from his garage.
Mark Figueiredo, 30, wept as he hugged his wife, sister and niece
before he was led away in handcuffs.
The Toronto man has no previous criminal record, but he chose to do
business with the Hells Angels, found by judges to be a criminal
organization, said Ontario Superior Court Justice Ian Nordheimer.
The drug GHB has legal purposes, but the fact that Figueiredo dealt
with the Hells Angels leads to the inescapable conclusion that the
liquid "was not for legitimate or benign" purposes," Nordheimer said.
GHB is one of at least three "date rape" drugs that can render victims
physically helpless and unable to remember events afterward.
Figueiredo pleaded guilty in July to conspiring with six other men,
five alleged to be Hells Angels members, to traffic in 600 litres of
GHB, worth $1.2 million.
Police found 350 litres in Figueiredo's garage on Crawford. St., in
west Toronto, described by prosecutor Hugh O'Connell as the largest
seizure of the drug in Canada.
Figueiredo was arrested as part of Project Develop, which charged
alleged Hells Angels members in April 2007 following a series of
police raids across southern Ontario. He is not a Hells Angels member.
Several co-accused have pleaded guilty, others are before the courts.
The judge accepted a joint submission by O'Connell and defence lawyer
Fred Shanahan, and sentenced Figueiredo to six years.
According to an agreed statement of facts, in May 2006 police found
$2,000 in cocaine and some marijuana at Figueiredo's home.
Police had placed him under surveillance and in January 2006 saw him
carry plastic bags, believed to contain GHB into the Toronto home of a
known Hells Angels member. A police agent at the home paid the Hells
Angels member $1,600 for eight litres of GHB.
Acting on suspicion Figueiredo was stashing GHB for Hells Angels,
police executed a warrant on Feb. 15 and found the GHB in his garage.

Langley drive-by shooting linked to gang associate

Police are investigating a drive-by shooting at a heavily fortified
house in Langley.
RCMP Const. Holly Marks said the occupants called police at about 8
p.m. Monday after several shots were fired toward the house, which
sits behind a tall gate and is guarded by two large dogs.
No one was injured or arrested, but police believe the house was
targeted.
"We characterize it as likely being a targeted hit because of the
occupant, who is known to police," Marks said yesterday.
A police source told The Province that one of the occupants is both a
known associate of the Hells Angels and the Independent Soldiers.
Langley RCMP also received several emergency calls from residents
living near the house at the corner of 36A Avenue and 240th Street.
Neighbours yesterday said the house's occupants keep to themselves.
They are believed to have young children.
Police responded quickly to the shooting, with about 10 patrol cars
convening near the property.
Marks said she is not aware of anything illegal found at the house.
She said the property is fortified with surveillance cameras and
security that's "a step above what's normal here." Property records
show the property was purchased in 2006 and is worth about $1 million.
The listed owner is Tammy Sandra York.

The White Rock chapter Sgt.Of Arms, Villy Roy Lynnerup, recently was
arrested for trying to board an airplane at YVR
with a loaded firearm. Was probably going to crash the plane into the
Downtown courthouse or hold the passengers hostage in exchange for

release of Moms Boucher and all imprisoned full patch members. All

Hell's Angels, their supporters, associates etc. should be imprisoned
for twenty years

As well John Les the solicitor-general of BC before he resigned has
advocated banning
the wearing of gang colours such as biker patches in bars. Perhaps
John VanDongen can finish the job he started. Since HA

various bars in BC that would be an improvement. The gang has a
history of intimidating
bartenders, infiltrating unions involved in the bar industry, beating
and killing strippers and beating customers to death at random for no
reason. Contact your MLA as well as the local media and tell them you
want this implemented sooner rather than later.
VPD is appealing again for info about the homicide of Maria Yvette
Monzon who was shot dead on the westside of Vancouver. She was killed
by HA but the police have never stated that. There is a reward.
Colleen Reiter (Ryder?) of Surrey was killed by HAMC but the RCMP
refuse to confirm this.
