increasing volume of domestic goods.
Both of those statements are true. Amid fierce price competition, the
dollar value of retail purchases is rising only slightly even as the
volume of goods that Canadians bought rises by a higher margin.

True in most cases. But there is strong evidence the destruction of
the U.S. economy was in part drawn out and linked to American's
endless search for cheaper and cheaper prices and the erosive effect
it had on the entire economy.
