Of course I did not switch to an @home email address to avoid the
problems associated with those, and on any correspondence I have
recieved since the @home email addresses were removed does not state
that @cableworks.org addresses should be switched over to the new
@cogeco.ca (only @home and @cgocable.net addresses).
I would like to keep using this address, however recently a bunch of my
messages were randomly deleted, including several folders and a bunch of
the mail in my inbox, in no particular order. I am using the IMAP server
(another reason why I didn't switch to the @home, since IMAP wasn't
supported and I use the email address from several computers), so I
don't have local copies of these emails. I emailed Cogeco support a
couple of weeks ago, and have yet to recieve a reply.
Would Cogeco have removed these messages because of violation of some
(unknown) quota? Has anyone else experienced this?
Go Raptors Go!!!

" What should I do if my email address does not end in @cogeco.ca?
If your email address is any of the following: @cgocable.net, @home.com
or @cgo.wave.ca you should call Cogeco technical support to obtain an
@cogeco.ca address as soon as possible. "
It was after all this searching and waiting on hold that I was satisfied
that the Cableworks address (and the related @western.wave.ca) would
remain available to me and my correspondents.
All of a sudden, the policy seems to have changed. Apart from myself and
anyone else reading this newsgroup, no one continuing the use of this
address will be given any time whatsoever to switch over (nevermind 2
weeks which is *extremely* short).
I am therefore extremely dissapointed in Cogeco's actions: not only are
they switching users email addresses with no notice, but they are also
cutting back on the services that they provide.
As one of the first cable modem subscribers in my neighbourhood (I got
it installed as soon as it became available), I have seen good and bad
times. Although I must admit that the good times have been more
prentiful under Cogeco, I must also point out that this event, along
with another ill-thought out decision have been my worst cable modem
experiences.
In that situation, a Cogeco installer working on my street found a
"non-standard" filter on my line which was actually the old Cableworks
or Western line filter. Without consulting with the list of services
that we recieved or letting his supervisor (or us) know, he swapped this
filter for a Cogeco one - however, this blocked off all Internet access.
Cogeco tech support dragged their feet on this issue, and it took
several days of down-time to solve this problem. Very annerving,
especially since tech support without fail blamed the outage as a
problem with my computer, my modem (I was asked to *bring it in* to
Cogeco to get it swapped), etc. Very unprofessional. And so is this.
I would ask that Cogeco please reconsider the decision of shutting down
this email server, and not providing IMAP (a newer protocol).
