I Was informed that Rogers had a cap on it's internet speeds to stay
competitive with satellite and DSL. Rogers also had the ability to increase
speed caps as demand and competition dictated between current and 5x faster.
In the States there is numerous sites showing how to tweak extra speed from
your connection overstepping the built in governors. DOES anyone know if
this can be done on Canadian servers/connections. I had a frustrating time
with LOOK high speed and decided to come on board with ROGERS@Home service,
however, in the last few months, my internet download speeds have almost
dropped in half. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

www.speedguide.net is a good site for a varity of speed tweaks. My LOOK
speeds were stinky for a while but after applying a few of their
registry tweaks things improved dramatically.
Good Luck.

In most areas of Rogers@Home service, segment congestion (read: Rogers is
overselling) reduces connection speed to the point that the 3mbits/s cap
limit is irrelevant. In other words, there's no point in Rogers increasing
the cap limit, or you *hacking* into their network and removing the cap, as
other factors restrict your speed.

Ok, ill explain it to you. the caps they set are through DOCSIS
(Data-Over-Cable Service Interface Specification). DOCSIS is ONLY
configurable through their cable router systems. It is illegal to mess with
DOCSIS settings. The only way you would be able to do it also would be to
hack into @home and reconfigure their settings or to make some sort of
physical device to connect to your cablemodem and broadcast your new DOCSIS.

The best thing you can do is goto www.speedguide.net and do the registry
tweaks.

Actually, I know for a fact that you were able to defeat the upload caps on
the Lan City modems using Cogeco@home.

It is now a mute point because they don't use these modems anymore (I wonder
why??)

Terayons were easier to get.

The modem file that people were able to defeat was removed after somebody
bragged about it in the Rogers newsgroup...

People can be so, uh, unbright sometimes...
