Like what's his face that screwed up BC: Ujjal Dosanjh
As a general rule, there are reasons I don't like the idea
of an NDP government. Too often, I get the impression they
think money grows on trees. And OK, while technically the
paper used to print banknotes was trees once, . . ..

Old MacDonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O
And on that farm he had a genome E-I-E-I-O
With a SNP SNP here and a SNP SNP there,
Here a SNP, there a SNP, everywhere a SNP SNP
Old MacDonald had a farm E-I-E-I-O
Don't get me started on the NDP ... vote them in and they spend years
blaming the previous party on their incompetence.
From March 2001 (http://archive.delta-optimist.com/issues01/03301/op-2.htm):
... There's no doubt the governing New Democrats are out of touch with the
electorate on many fronts. Premier Ujjal Dosanjh's state of the province
address last month, in which he stated, "If you want tax relief, I'm not
your man," is testament to that fact. ...
Shortly afterwards most of BC said, "no fucking kidding you're not the man".
And they got Gordon Campbell and the Liberals.
And Gordon Campell and the Liberals have introduced a carbon
tax--meaning in BC the federal Liberals are now in the dog
house.
The BC Carbon Tax is bullshit. Trust me. The Federal Carbon Tax would also
be bullshit. This is a global issue and taxing local people is not a
solution.
Don't know what happened to Campbell. He was good a some point, great
Vancouver Mayor - for three terms. Then he went provincial. Got busted for
drunk driving in Hawaii and then he got an ex-Miss Canada (?), W5 hostess as
Finance Minister ... (at least Alberta's Ralph what's his face car saleman
never got busted for drunk driving to my knowledge ...)
I just looked and I can't find a URL right now but a couple of months ago I
read about a report that said some of California's pollution is caused by
air current flow from China's pollution. So, a carbon tax on Californians
would do what?
I don't disagree.

He spent too long as Premier?
That was actually Ralph Klein's problem. He spent too long
as head of the Alberta Progressive Conservative Party. His
first two terms he did OK. Sure, some of the stuff he did
wasn't exactly popular, but he did do what he said he was
going to do. Then he started bashing people on AISH and
making a nusiance of himself while (in an inebriated state)
he started wandering into shelters and that kind of thing.
When he did that, I knew it was time for him to hang up his
ten gallon hat and call it a day.

While cutting carbon emissions is a good thing, the western
world can't be cutting carbon emissions while the developing
countries are ramping up production. It's like trying to
bail water out of a leaky boat without patching the holes
that let water into the boat in the first place.
That's the problem with Kyoto. It isn't so much as a
climate change agreement as it is a money transfer
mechanism.
Excellent summary!
Actually, we already have a whopping carbon tax in place on gasoline. I
wish vendors would bring back those stickers showing exactly what is in the
cost of gasoline. The most expensive part is government.
They say carbon tax, what they really mean is incremental more tax.
People ought to know more taxes are coming when they vote NDP/Liberal. How
many times does history have to repeat itself before people wake up?
That is the Liberal/NDP, everyone else's fault but ours. It is called
denial of failing policies and incompetent fiscal management. Fiscal
management may be a boring subject for the voter, Liberal or NDP but it is
crucial to a governments success. It is also why they make lousy
governments.
Hey, why address the problem when you can spend more? That is the
Liberal/NDP way.
What usually contains Liberal and government spending is the banks,
threatening to lower the governments credit rating for excessive borrowing
or a rise in interest rates that reflect the risk. In Ontario's case, they
are in a very deep hole, 100% driven by Liberal/NDP governments.
And there is no reason Ontario, with the right leadership and fiscal
management could not dig out of that hole but McGuinty and crew are
incapable of such needed self discipline on fiscal management. They have
been on the markets this year borrowing like pigs.
This is one of the most intelligent debates I have ever read in this group.
I could not agree more with the 3 of you.
As a Western Canadian, and more specifically an Albertan, my greatest
frustration is in watching North America become so liberal in everything
from political views to lifestyle. The decline of morality on this
continent is alarming to me as I worry about my children and grandchildren.
Unfortunately history shows that the more liberal one's views are, the more
acceptable it is to have people who work hard support people who are not
driven, or have addiction issues, or are single mothers with 6 kids from 5
fathers who are not driven to support their children. Sadly, in the views
of the NDP and the Liberals that means either implementing more social
programs, which taxpayers foot the bill for, or by simply adding taxation
(be it hidden in a program like the greenshaft or by taxing corporations and
upper class people more).
How so many people in both the US and in Canada can support that is an
indicator that there are a lot of 'floaters' in North American who are not
driven to succeed, but would rather have their lifestyle provided at a
discount by those who do.
