Hi, Doc,
A distressing state of affairs but not a surprise. I have been checking
can.e for a year or two now -- not often enough, since I missed the one
posting that you noted below -- and have seen no activity, not even
fishing for suckers.
Is there enough beef in CanE to keep a busy newsgroup fed? I and
several other landsmen* participate in AUE, representing Canadian usage
and points of view when they are relevant. If you (and any others who
may be following you about) think you might be interested in that kind
of action, you could try lurking there for a while to see if you are
tempted.
Be warned: it's a tough group, although not as tough as it used to be:
it has a culture that should be learned, and mockery for those who
resist. Trolls have been reduced, eventually, to rage, despair, and
ignominious flight.
If you want to keep things distinct, then I will try to help. Maybe we
could start by finding a substitute for "Canuck". "Da North" would do
for a collective, but what of the individual? I will suggest "Peggy"
(in honour of Ms Atwood and my great-grandmother) and "Doug". Comments?

I don't usually have a sig, but:
Born in Ottawa and have mostly lived here; spent some formative years
near NYC, and others in other parts of our hemisphere; civil servant
until I retired. Late Mother a Peggy in origin, but with a strange
British-sounding pronunciation of some words acquired in Australia in
the 1920s (my brother and I say "tomato" with the "a" of "mat"); late
father a naturalised Franco-American from Vermont. Et voilà.
