Dear Friend

We’d love for you and a guest to join us for the launch of Voices of the City, a powerful new photography exhibition at Manchester Central Library.

Wednesday 8 April - 1.00 – 3.30pm in the Oculus Space, Manchester Central Library. Please RSVP

The exhibition features photography from our Voices of the City project by the acclaimed music photographer Shirlaine Forrest, whose portfolio includes events such as The Brits, and artists, including Stormzy, Taylor Swift, Rita Ora and Dua Lipa.

Drop in any time during the afternoon to celebrate the exhibition, meet members of the project team, and enjoy live music from Emma Marsh and [musician name]. At 2.30pm, there will also be a short Q&A in the Watson Music Library about the project and the creative process behind it.

Shirlaine turned her lens toward CAN Young Artists, a group of young people aged 18 – 26, from across the city, many with migrant heritage, including those who have experienced forced migration.

Over 12 weeks, the group worked with drama facilitator and physical theatre director Julia Wilson from SmallActs Theatre Company to develop characters and explore storytelling through performance and photography.

Voices of the City captures the young people’s experiences of Manchester and their hopes for the city’s future.

The exhibition will be on display at Manchester Central Library until Wednesday 30 April 2026.

We hope you can join us for the launch — or pop in another time to experience this inspiring exhibition.
