Curation Clinic is back with its third session of the GitHub series - GitHub–Borealis Integration: Automating Data Deposit with Borealis
The session will be led by Billie Hu, Data Infrastructure Librarian at Scholars Portal, where she supports the development and operation of data services such as Borealis, Odesi, and Geoportal.
This session introduces how GitHub repositories can be integrated with Borealis (Canada’s national Dataverse repository) to support streamlined and reproducible research data workflows. Building on basic familiarity with Git and GitHub, the workshop demonstrates
how the Dataverse–GitHub integration enables researchers to deposit and update datasets in Borealis directly from a GitHub repository. Participants will learn how to configure the Dataverse uploader GitHub Action, connect a repository to a Borealis dataset,
and choose between manual and automated synchronization workflows. The session will also cover practical use cases, such as versioned data releases, collaboration, and improving transparency and reproducibility.
By the end of the session, attendees will understand how to incorporate GitHub into their data management practices and leverage Borealis as a trusted repository for long-term access and preservation.
The format for the session will be a presentation followed by a discussion and question period. The session will be recorded. The presentation slides and recording will be available to attendees.

Atelier de curation revient avec la troisième session de sa série consacrée à GitHub: Intégration GitHub–Borealis : automatisation du dépôt de données avec Borealis.
La session sera animée par Billie Hu, bibliothécaire chargée des infrastructures de données chez Scholars Portal, où elle participe au développement et à l'exploitation de services de données tels que Borealis, Odesi et Geoportal.
Cette session présente comment les dépôts GitHub peuvent être intégrés à Borealis (le dépôt national Dataverse du Canada) afin de faciliter des flux de travail rationalisés et reproductibles pour les données de recherche. Partant d’une connaissance de base
de Git et de GitHub, l’atelier montre comment l’intégration Dataverse–GitHub permet aux chercheurs de déposer et de mettre à jour des ensembles de données dans Borealis directement à partir d’un dépôt GitHub. Les participants apprendront à configurer l’action
GitHub Dataverse uploader, à associer un dépôt à un ensemble de données Borealis et à choisir entre des flux de travail de synchronisation manuels et automatisés. La session abordera également des cas d’utilisation concrets, tels que la publication de données
versionnées, la collaboration, ainsi que l’amélioration de la transparence et de la reproductibilité.
À l’issue de la session, les participants sauront comment intégrer GitHub à leurs pratiques de gestion des données et tirer parti de Borealis en tant que référentiel fiable pour l’accès et la conservation à long terme.
La session prendra la forme d'une présentation suivie d'une période de discussion et des questions. La session sera enregistrée. Les diapositives de la présentation et l'enregistrement seront mis à la disposition des participants.
