The next CDSN Community of Practice digital preservation mixer is coming up on April 18, 2024 and this time we’d like to pass the mic to our community members – we’d like to hear from you!
What it is:
An
hour-long informal meetup held Thursday, April 18, 2024 @ 12 p.m. PT / 1
p.m. MT / 2 p.m. CT via Zoom. Past discussion topics have included
workflows, tools, policies, and preservation for research data.
How you can get involved:
Share
your work with your peers by presenting on a digital preservation topic
of your choice in an informal “lightning talk” setting – 5-10 minutes,
slides welcome but not necessary! Think of this as an opportunity to
shine a light on your day-to-day preservation challenges and successes
or a chance to ask questions, share useful tips, tricks, and tools and
connect with like-minded collaborators.
Examples:
- An
alumnus died and left our institution all their research files since
1963. How do I figure out what to preserve and what to deaccession?
- Data
retention and disposition are common considerations in archival and
records management contexts. How do digital preservationists approach
these topics?
- I’m part of a community or group that
focuses on a particular preservation topic. This is what we’ve been
working on lately and how you can get involved.
- My
institution recently published an institutional strategy for research
data management. Here are some things you might want to consider before
you start out.
Digital preservationists of all roles, areas,
and levels of expertise are welcome to speak, and moderators will be
standing by to assist with questions and follow up discussion.
Look out for our event invitation with more details and a link to RSVP next month.
