INTERVIEW BEYOND THE GREEN ZONE WITH DAHR JAMAIL
Hunter College student AMANDA GINSBERG of the national coordinating committee of the CAMPUS ANTIWAR NETWORK (CAN) will facilitate a one-hour conference call phone-interview with award winning journalist DAHR JAMAIL on the evening of SUNDAY FEBRUARY 10. Student antiwar activists are invited to submit questions and listen in live!
Some questions already submitted include: "Is the Bush administration still serious about pursuing military options for Iran?" "If violence against Americans has declined, is that a reflection of shifting Iraqi opinion regarding the American presence?" "With more than 2 million Iraqis made refugees outside of Iraq, what is the American State Department doing to address this crisis? And what can antiwar activists do?" "What do you think about the wall between Gaza and Egypt getting busted down in January? Why, as some reports are saying, is America pressuring Egypt to close the border for good?"
Dahr spent eight months covering the occupation of Iraq from the perspective of the occupied Iraqis. His dispatches, collected in his award-winning book BEYOND THE GREEN ZONE, tell the stories of imperial arrogance and Iraqi defiance as no "embedded" journalist possibly could. The stories of America's failed reconstruction "efforts," the growing refugee crisis ignored by the State Department and the occupation's divide and conquer strategy are shared as experienced in the day-to-day lives of ordinary Iraqis. As Bush's Surge unravels in Iraq, mainstream discourse has proved itself too blind--if not too loyal to the project of occupation--to explain why. It is up to the antiwar movement and principled journalists to tell the truth about the war and demand the immediate withdrawal of occupation forces.
