LIVERPOOL - SATURDAY 16TH SEPTEMBER (THIS SATURDAY)

Just a reminder that we're going to Liverpool this Saturday. Sorry I didn't do this earlier but I've been on holiday.

Even if you're not booked on the Cains Brewery tour, come along - the brewery tour is a relatively small part of the day! I know there are several people coming who aren't on the tour, so you won't be alone.

TRAIN: 10.07 from Manchester Piccadilly arriving Liverpool 10.57. We'll then be getting on Merseyrail for a 5 minute journey to Liverpool James Street Station. I think every ticket from Manchester to Liverpol lets you jump on the Merseyrail....but to be sure I'd ask for a ticket to Liverpool James Street / Liverpool all stations.

We'll be starting at the Baltic Fleet which is home to Wapping Brewery. I've been told we can have a look at the brewery (provided the brewer can make it - he's got a very busy day!) In any event it's a superb place with great beer and they do a great brunch.

From there it's a 10 minute walk to Cains Brewery where 20 of us are booked on the brewery tour. Cains has a brilliant brewery tap pub and for anybody who isn't booked on the tour you'll not be bored! The tour should only take 45 mins.

The following people are booked on the Cains Brewery Tour:-

Andrew Roberts
Lisa Knight
Richard Chambers
Tim Jackson
Kim Walton
Matthew Parr
Amy Joughin
Alex Koval
Rick Brindley
Nick Ogden
Dave Hallows
Matt
Jen
Friend of Matt and Jen
Gary Chester
Peter Butler
Jon
Hayley
Phil
Karen

As previously advised, the cost is a shade under £2 and that includes the tour, 2 pints and a light buffet. [Phil and Karen have booked privately]. If anybody is on that list and can't make it - please let me know.

After the Cains visit, we're walking for about 10 minutes up to Peter Kavanagh's. The landlord will be chatting to us about the history of the pub and showing us the cellars etc which are, apparently, very interesting.

From Peter Kavanaghs, there will be a selection of pubs in quite a small area. I'll give you all a map.

Blackburne Arms - newly refurbished with a good selection of beers.
Belvedere - newly reopened cosy little pub.
Ye Cracke - small and classic Liverpool pub with Liverpool characters!
Pilgrim - cellar bar with predominantly student atmosphere.
Philharmonic - famous pub with even more famous gents toilets.
Everyman - atmospheric theatre bar.
Grapes - this pub is reputedly the oldest in Liverpool and the landlady will be on hand to chat about the pub's history and tell us about the ghosts! It's a pretty recent convert to real ale.
Roscoe Head - been in every edition of the GBG.

Everybody has different tastes so I think it's best for people to go where they like, when they like. Plus, some of these pubs are quite small so it would make sense to visit them in smaller groups.

After a time we can rendez-vous at Okells' Fly in the Loaf and we'll commence the run in to the end by heading over to Rigbys, The Lion, Ship and Mitre for the grand finale at Dr Duncans.

There will be no official lunch stop - please make necessary arrangements. There will be food at Cains for those booked on the tour.

Finally, make sure you've visited a cash point before getting on the train. They're a little thin on the ground in some of the areas we're visiting.

Any questions, send me an email / text / or give me a call: mrd...@yahoo.co.uk 07734 66 12 12

Look forward to seeing you on Saturday!
Cheers - Matt
