Greetings to Campus Farmers Market Network!  We look forward to sharing ideas about hosting farmers markets on campuses.  Would you share your Guidelines for Farmers & Vendors on Market Days?

Our Duke Farmers Market is hosted on campus for employees (of the Medical Center complex and University) and also welcomes students.  (No parking space for vehicles other than farmers and vendors!)
Duke Farmers Market at Duke University in Durham NC celebrates 10 years with an Opening Festival for Earth Day Week on Friday, April 23 from 11 am to 2 pm.
The Duke Farmers Market began in 2001 and begins the 2010 season with a celebation for its 10th anniversary.  The Duke Farmers Market is sponsored by LIVE FOR LIFE, Duke's employee health promotion program.

Duke Farmers Market is part of a growing interest in the farm-to-fork style of eating.  Again this year, employees explore ways to "Be a Locavore!" Locavores are people who try to eat local food whenever possible. At the Duke Farmers Market, employees can shake hands with the farmer, ask questions about how food is grown, taste something new and get recipe ideas. Farmers from nearby farms sell seasonal fresh, tasty fruits and vegetables, and pasture raised meats. Vendors sell lavender and gift items, flowers and plants, coffee beans, honey and jams, gluten free prepared foods and crafts. Lunch vendors offer a variety of healthy meals. On selected weeks, chefs grill and cook tasty fresh foods, talk about creating healthy recipes, and offer taste-tests. Other demonstrations are scheduled throughout the season

Returning again this year is The Got to Be NC Big Cart, the promotional vehicle rolling across North Carolina for the Got to Be NC Campaign. The Big Cart is a 13’ tall by 15’ long shopping cart. The cart was put into motion to place emphasis on the numerous agricultural products grown or processed in the state. Agriculture is the number one industry in North Carolina and contributes approximately $68 billion to the economy.

This is the 10th year of the popular and successful market at Duke so many features will be presented in clusters of 10.  Watch for specials on 10 locally grown fruits & vegetables, 10 healthy lunch items for purchase, 10 tantalizing food tastings, 10 favorite recipe collections and more.  The LIVE FOR LIFE staff will promote 10 walking routes or trails to reach the Market as part of the Take Ten program.

I'd love to hear your ideas!
