Liberal Youth Forum In collaboration with Pratigya organised a Seminar on the topic “Liberalism , Public Policy and Youth” at National University for Study and Research in Law, Ranchi on 25th August, 2012.

Seminar started with an introduction of the participants. While introducing  themselves they were also asked to state one change they would like to bring as Prime Minister of the country. This helped us know the social or political or economic issues which are closer to their heart.

Introduction session also helped students understand that change which they would like to bring about in the country will not be possible without intervention at the Policy level.

A session on different aspects of a Public Policy and Principles of Sound Public Policy was conducted by Rajan Kumar Singh. In the session difference between Direct Action and Policy level advocacy was discussed at length. Principles based on liberal values which should guide the formation of Public Policy was also discussed. Assessment of new policies like Right to Education , National Rural Employment Guarantee scheme  and Right to Information etc on those principles were done during the session.

In the later half of the seminar an animation on Liberal Philosophy was screened  followed by a discussion on various values of Basic Liberalism . Participants could understand how various Public Policy have certain ideological bases. A  Political Quiz was conducted. Students were given a post card in which they had to answer 5 Questions pertaining to Personal life  and Economy . After answering these questions themselves  and grading themselves they could plot their Political Ideology on the graph and could have a fair idea if they are libertarian, authoritarian ,  socialist , conservative or centrist.

Chandan Singh ,  Chief Program Coordinator of Pratigya and member of LYF briefed participants about Liberal youth Forum and Pratigya. Participants were told various opportunities they have in getting associated with  the group.

Dr J D Patnayak, Faculty of the University thanked the team and participants for successful conduct of the seminar and invited the team again for similar events in future. 65 participants  attended the seminar.
