Does anyone have good long term experience with direct buried Pratt Groundhog butterfly valves in chilled water and/or hot water distribution service?  Any other successful mfrs/types in these services (direct buried)?  Our hot water supply temp is ~175 deg F, and it seems that most if not all major resilient wedge gate valve mfrs don't recommend their valves for that temp.

Thanks,

Mike,

Fours (4) ago when we were investigating the use of direct buried Pratt Groundhog butterfly valves in chilled water and hot water distribution service for UTMB – Galveston. The University of Texas A&M –Galveston has them in their chilled water and hot water distribution system. Joe Castillo, George Kaiser and I went to the local rep south of Houston, Texas near Hobby Air Port they have a good stock of Pratt Groundhog butterfly valves and accessories. Also, The City of Galveston, Texas have them in their city water system before IKE and have not problems with valve operation after IKE. The University of Texas A&M – Galveston have not had any problems with valve operation after IKE. There should be a report from Joe Castillo with OFPC and AEI recommendation to use the Pratt Groundhog butterfly valves in the chilled water and hot water distribution systems of UTMB- Galveston.

Thanks Lloyd.

We'll check with our local OFPC folks and see what they can dig up.

The TAMU-College Station folks say that they have had issues with the Groundhog valves, but we've heard that TECO in Houston is using them with no issues.  We're following up with both to try and get more details.

Appreciate the info.

Regards,

Mike Manoucheri
