Hi,
Tibs has asked for questions/proposals for themes or subjects for the UserGroup meeting, so I wondered if somebody could give an introduction to distributed computing with Python (not just multi-threading), preferably using a set of machines on amazon web services.

Of particular interest would be to understand:
1) The overall framework, i.e. the sequence in the code
2) How information is shared between the machines (AWS call them instances) and why such an architecture is meaningful.
3) What to take particular care of when designing applications for such an architecture.
4) What the scalability function looks like (time to compute a fixed size task versus number machines/virtual cores/instances involved).

I would offer to refund up to 100.00 GBP (pool ~ fairshare) for the costs incurred from Amazon for working solutions.

PS. The task should be relatively simple, so that the focus is on the usage of Python to gain the benefit of the scalability of the AWS architecture.

When is the next meeting ? We could potentially leverage the
presentation done for PyGotham
(http://blog.enthought.com/general/pygotham-sneak-peek-the-three-ps/).

I am thinking of coming along to attend a CamPUG meeting.

Will the next one be at RealVNC and will it be a talk night or a dojo night?

It will be a talks night - do please come along.

And if you have even a short talk (lightning talks, 5 minutes long, are perfectly acceptable!) then please offer it (although that's not a requirement, of course)

Tibs
