I had to switch to clevo-drivers-dkms-git from AUR, which has then no issue with kernel 6.8+. Previously I was using 6.7 which worked fine with tuxedo-drivers, but now that it became EOL and I had to switch to 6.8, but I also need Tuxedo Control Center to be usable. Luckily, clevo package fixes that, but it would nicer if Manjaro package would work as well.

And yet there is a difference. However, you are right, I could install Manjaro version again and see if there is a difference now. Maybe all I needed was a reinstallation of the package. I will do that and let you know if it fixed it.

Though the rebuild of the DKMS modules is usually seamless during a kernel upgrade, it may still happen that the rebuild fails. You should pay extra attention to the pacman output. This applies in particular if the system relies on the DKMS module to boot successfully and/or if you use DKMS with a custom kernel not in the official repositories.

This package behaves differently than any of the kernel-modules. During update, it shows no-depmod info as if it was uninstalled and then installed anew to any new kernel. There is no info about any error:

Given the fact that with not fully registered to the kernel drivers make the TCC not show temperature and fan, suggests that they are needed. However, I can do an experiment and see if it is really so.

There are also some smaller quirks. Hardware is not so well Linux compatible IMO. My old, Alienware laptop with Nvidia was way more Linux compatible (the only issue was with sound, but that was a race condition on a driver that was showing only once a month, so not a big deal). In Sirus there is a bunch of issues thou, with Plasma gestures in Wayland, or with Jabra not being able to work as a microphone and speaker at the same time, etc.

Recently I noticed that, when i changed power modes in the control center, the actual power mode doesn't change anymore; It's always stuck on quiet mode. I reinstalled the control center but that just removed the icon and now I can't seem to find the actual app.

I did not accept their response it is by design and start using 3rd party softwares to undervolt and underclock the CPU to get the temp. in the right range.

I have escaleted the case within hp to their customer relationship team.

If they don't replace my unit with another one that has a proper cooling solution I will file a consumer case against HP for deceiving the customers and selling malfunctioning ( overheating ) products out of the box as new !

There is something in the background here because hp contractor service centre replaced my fans and motherboard without knowing this is not a "fault" it is by design.

I've asked the question from HP how could their service contractor replace the mobo and fans if this is BY DESIGN ?

@Xcepter I understand how that feels and I wish to help you, all I need is a response to my private message to keep your information safe and we could have the concerned team involved to get this issue sorted as per your requirements (if possible).

Yes, it's by design that much is obvious, that it will ramp it up to 100% when it's already very hot.

Just use the Notebook FanControl method as described, lets you ramp the fans up earlier or run all the time at 100%. in certain load scenarios (mining both cpu and gpu) it will still get very, very hot. However it will still keep working at full ghz speed far longer than say any Apple product or most laptops from all other manufacturers (they all screw the customer with ghz promises that they can only attain for a minute or two before having to thermal throttle). This is why we buy "gaming" laptops in the first place, because their cooling is better than "non gaming" laptops -even from hp, like if you think this is bad oh boy. it's the same story with all manufacturers.

Fighting them over it is rather futile as it's an industry accepted feature at this point. However what I do strongly think is that Hp should just put the ability to control the fan speeds to ramp up earlier into their application, because obviously it's something you can do with software.

I was fighting with HP customer care team long time and the resolution is, HP bought back the laptop from me for that price I paid for it. Otherwise I was willing to take this issue to the court and I think they realized they can loose ( otherwise they wouldn't buy back the laptop ... I think )

thanks for your answer mate. I postet my question about that specific Omen 17 in this Community-Forum two days ago and it got deleted ^^. Probably i got my answer but i will post it again. I'll check out Clevo !

Please see this youtube link below, for a gen 3 review. It shows a new Omen Command Center that has a switch for max fan speed. There are a couple places where he switches it on, for example at 24:48 into the video. @Chris3001, I would think with your Gen 3 you could get this version of the command center if you don't already have it by now.

Back to this Gen 2 thread, it would be nice to know if this is going to be available here as well? The bad thing is that since Gen 3 is out, it makes me worry Gen 2 will be abandon by HP as far as this type of update is concerned. And even worse for me is I just voluntarily bought the Gen 2 at a local retailer when I had an option to buy Gen 3 online (but I didn't want to pay the extra $ / although I still have an option to return it). I haven't tried to see if there is a recent Bios update for Gen 2 that adds this switch. Also I haven't ran into the thermal issues yet on my Gen 2 because I haven't heavily loaded it for any extended time, but I would like to have this option.

Since HP is still selling the Gen 2 on their website, and it has essentially a lot of the same assets (i7-9750H and GTX 1660 ti for example in my case), AND since Gen 2 has a more vulnerable hardware design in terms of thermals, I would expect to see this update on Gen 2 because it needs it more than Gen 3.

There is my exp.My omen 17 with i7 7820 and gtx 1080 stopped working 2 weeks ago.after a battle for one week with the support on the phone, they finally decided for a rma.i was not able to reinstall the os even with the usb key they sent me and i suspected a hardware failure.

Before ,i reached a lot of times 95c even after repaste and on a laptop cooler it was like 85C.Now the laptop is cooler, much cool.on a laptop cooler it doesn't reach 80C with the proc at 4 ghz with throttle stop.

The problem can be found on all laptop brands: ASUS, Acer, Clevo, Dell, Gigabyte, HP, Lenovo, MSI, Razer. The problem can be solved by either disabling Intel GPU, which forces the system to always work with NVIDIA, or disabling NVIDIA GPU. Both of them is not an option though, as if you disable Intel, not only you will drain the battery faster, but also some games will stop working. If you disable NVIDIA, then what is the point of buying a laptop with a discrete GPU?There is a also a workaround: configuring TrayPwrD3 to always work with NVIDIA in the backgound. This keeps the NVIDIA GPU alive but also drains battery faster. And there is no poaint in that as it renders Optimus useless! So, manufacturers have to come up with a fix.Thank you.

Thank you for your patience while we investigated this further. I understand the frustrations caused by this issue and apologize for the inconvenience it may be bringing you. By now, most of you have installed our latest graphics driver ( 15.65.5.4982) and seen the right-click desktop issue resolved (and some other right-click stutters as well).

After implementing the code change, we noticed there were some remaining right-click stutters happening in various areas of the OS experience and that's what we've been investigating until now; we wanted to be very clear if we were still contributing to them. We've now concluded that we are not, we're only in the stack 1 millisecond which is acceptable and the remaining time is from other parties and the three others in the stack, to the best of my knowledge are aware, investigating, and treating this with high priority.

You have Intel HD 630 + NVIDIA GTX 1060 laptop. You right click on desktop and the system freezes for a second. You click on battery icon, system freezes again. I saw no freeze and NVIDIA GPU in your videos...

Freezing on right-click fix is pretty simple. Type in search box "regedit" (open as an adminstrator). Head to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\ shellex\ContextMenuHandlers then delete both igfxcui and igfxDTCM. Voila! (It only affects righ-click menu intel entry).

Unfortunately it did not fix my problem on Dell Inspiron 7577 (I7 7700HQ, GTX 1060 MaxQ). I had to sort it out this way. I think Max Q drivers only made things worse. however I still get micro lag when opening battery icon from taskbar or opening control panel. If you got a workaround you would be much appreciated.

Thank you for the answer provided, coolrecep, let me check, I will continue to look for a system with hybrid graphics (Intel + dedicated graphics adapter) to perform the tests and proceed accordingly looking for a solution.

I have used lm_sensors in the past and it worked quite well. You install that and then use System Monitor GUI to control everything. It collects the data for you. I believe this works best for (or only with) KDE and GNOME. I used it when I was using KDE.

Yes, but last time it happened in similar conditions and I realized that something is probably not right. The worst part is that if it freezes again I have no way to gather any information, because all input is not responding, even USB ports. It never happened under Windows, even when the laptop was under load and hot for long time.
