Topic: Conversation with Phyllis Stenerson
About: After many years of political activism, including two stints working for members of Congress, Phyllis Stenerson thought the world was moving along fairly well without her vigilance. She walked away from politics to become an artist. Then, the tragedy of September 11 happened. When her adult son called and asked, “What will happen now?” Phyllis responded by readily assuring him that our government is so strong, we will be all right.
Then the buildup to preemptive war with Iraq began. That outrageous action was the catalyst that sent Phyllis back into the political arena, reactivated and ready to fight for peace. MoveOn.org sponsored a project for citizens to visit members of Congress and Phyllis organized her District. More MoveOn.org actions followed and then she worked fiercely to elect John Kerry. The disappointment in the candidate, the campaign and the outcome was stunning. Read more and listen here
