Busy Week!

Dear friend

Syria:

Thank you to all who took action during the week to contact your members of Congress asking them to sign on to the Barbara Lee letter, which strongly urges the President "to seek an affirmative decision of Congress prior to committing any U.S. military engagement to this complex crisis." 61 members signed that letter. Read the letter and see the co-signers here. Also read this fine article by Cole Stangler from In These Times about the looming threat. Add your name to Rep. Alan Grayson's petition here.

Letter Drop Campaign:

It's hard to believe that September is almost upon us! That means another round of letter drops are around the corner on Wednesday, September 18th. We finished August with 233 letter drops around the country. View the August digest
here. PDA members took to the Hill last Monday to push for our legislation. See photos here.

We will be rolling out our plans for our September drops on a conference call next Wednesday. Email Conor here if you want to participate. The Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) will be high on the agenda. Listen to Lori Wallach (Director, Public Citizen's Global Trade Watch") discuss this bad trade deal on a recent episode of Blog Talk Radio here. Sign our action alert here.

Issue Teams:

Hear our End Corporate Rule August Call Recording
here. This month we had reports on the Democracy Convention in Wisconsin, the March on Washington, an update on the Anti-Corruption bill, and saving the Post Office. Plus, there was lots of discussion on the constitutional amendments in relation to money not being speech and corporations not being people.

The Election Integrity August Call Recording is
here - a great call with Jonathan Simon, co-founder and Executive Director of Election Defense Alliance. Mr. Simon, a statistician and specialist in risk-limiting audits, works on the other side of the ballot box, and he discussed just what the problems are and why paper ballots are a large part of the solution. It was a great presentation with informative Q&A.

Calls this week:

On Wednesday we will have our Economic and Social Justice call. RSVP
here.

Blog Talk Radio:

Listen
here to Dana and Joseph Siegleman as they discuss their efforts to free their father, former Alabama Governor Don Siegelman - an American political prisoner. Visit and join the thunderclap and sign the petition.

The Climate Crisis - Expanding the Discussion to Adaptation can be heard
here.

See the full list of all our Blog Talk Radio shows

NEW Power Point:

Here is a very useful tool to show PDA members, old and new, to all PDA is doing and our recent accomplishments.  It demonstrates how our PDA activities work together, and how they have gained us traction on the Hill. It describes our Issue Teams, and our Letter Drops, and has videos with recent highlights.  We recommend it be shown at your chapter meeting, and to groups which are interested in what PDA is, and does. Please download and take a look (use slide show for best viewing)
here
. Big thank you to Judy Hess for helping craft this and to our leadership for helping put the finishing touches to it. We will add it to our soon to be new look website in the coming weeks.
